Audulus 3 ! Couldn't resist that sale

Finally !
I got it !
I've wanted it forever but I've been scared to try it cuz it seems super complicated, and I have little time right now, but oh man it looks powerful, and I plan on just using it for effects for now until I can dive in to the rest,
Running digital d1 thru it and playing with preset effects and it is beautiful!
If you, like me have been scared... Do it now!
Thanks audulus team for the deal

It's quite fun and dare I say educational. I got really into it last year for about a month then I forgot about it until recently. You can make some really complex modules.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the Audulus forum as they’re very knowledgeable and willing to help you with your patches.

  • The preset reverbs and delays are amazing, I wanna learn how to build some more effects, I feel like audulus can emulate some of those sought after pedals with a little talent

  • Does anyone know if this version is going to get AUv3 or will that be a paid upgrade?

I love that feeling :) World’s your oyster! Do it do it do it.

I am tempted by this one, but I’m spread too thinly between too many environments already. Have fun!

I would go the their forum and ask the question there on the thread about it. They’ve run into some issues with implementing AUv3 in various host apps.

  • Complete and total rabbit hole, this one.

We'll have an AUv3 Instrument and Effect for Audulus 3 - it's very close to being done.

The MIDI generator AUv3 will wait for Audulus 4 (something you can put between your MIDI keyboard and another synth to create arpeggiators and the like).

It’s a wonderful thing, if you just used the user library it would be worth it.

However, I have just started my festive break and I'm donning the pith helmet and diving in ...

    👍👍👍
Will we be able to build inside the AU?

  • Woah it's 9.99.
I'm totally not an app whore but my situation is similar to @reasOne . Seems super complicated; I got Model15 a long time ago on sale and never really used it... I have very little time now because I have a 1yo. But this shit looks like a delightful rabbit hole.
Convince me that I shouldn't cop this.

  • Grabbed it for the phone!!

  • @ph8aerror - it definitely seems complicated, but it's less complicated than it seems. Modular synths are a little more complicated than hooking up, say, guitar pedals, but not much more. The great thing is too that you don't have to do it alone! I and other users are available to help over at our http://forum.audulus.com and there's also a ton of tutorials ready there as well :)

@id_23 thanks! Just FYI the license is transferrable to your iPad if you also have one of those.

  • Thanks @Audulus_Mark One of the most anticipated AUs for me! Just saw you have a new forum, signed up today.

  • I dove in based on OP. I think I’m already drowning just tying to scroll through a project. User library looks dope though!

    That’s great thanks Mark!

  • @Audulus_Mark two questions - how many modules will I find on Your forum?
    When will arrive Audulus 4?

    That does sound exciting @Audulus_Mark

At the moment I am sitting on the fence. SnuVox is my main app for modular and has also promised AUv3 support on iOS at some point. In its favour are:

I already use it regularly and enjoy its interface and workflow.
It is very efficient CPU wise and I would expect to be able to easily create some great effects to use in AB3, AUM, ApeM.

So, for me to consider Audulus:

I would have to be prepared to learn the concepts and interface.
It would have to offer something that SV doesn't.

I believe you when you say AUv3 support is coming but am in no rush if 'soon' means another six months.

If AUv3 support does appear soon then I may investigate Audulus further to see whether there are jewels in your app that don't exist anywhere else.

  • Grabbed it at black Friday and loving it !

@ocelot yay! I saw you posted on the KMI QuNexus giveway! :) https://forum.audulus.com/t/kmi-qunexus-giveaway-contest/1283/17 Good luck!

@robertreynolds let me know if you need any help! It can definitely be overwhelming at first, and this is something we're going to fix in Audulus 4 with a more focused core module library, but if you want to do something specific, just let me know and I can help you achieve it.

@MAtrixplan - I lost count, but there's somewhere around 1000-2000 unique modules available. This collection from the old forum has 1809 items in it, but some of them are duplicates with just few changes.

    https://forum.audulus.com/t/old-audulus-forum-patch-collection/105

There's been plenty more and more advanced stuff that's been posted on the new forum - you can find them through the categories here:

    https://forum.audulus.com/c/modules

Audulus 4 will come out at some point next year - there's definitely enough time to learn Audulus 3, build stuff, and get your money's worth before 4 comes out. It will be a paid upgrade, but it will also have so many new features that it will definitely be worth your while to upgrade. You'll also be able to bring whatever you make in Audulus 3 into Audulus 4 and have the opportunity to add new features like faders, XY pads, sampling, and more!

@Jocphone - SunVox is really its own beast - it's basically a tracker with a lot of wild modular options. What you can do with SunVox that you can't with Audulus is play around with samples and do more traditional tracking-style sequencing. With Audulus though, you can create literally anything you want in a big blank open canvas. You can think of Audulus almost like a shortcut way to making your own app.

As for learning the interface, it's not more complicated than SunVox. The only things you'd be learning are really about how to wire up a modular synth, which you might already know - sequencer controls VCO, envelope controls VCF and VCA, effects go after VCA, then you have to send your audio to a mixer and out onwards to your daw...etc. Either way, if you need help, it's really easy to get it at the forum. Lots of people there are willing to help, and there are hours of tutorial videos on all sorts of topics.

The AUv3 won't be coming out in 6 months since that will start to run up against Audulus 4's release. Taylor is optimistic about getting it out sometime summer next year, but it could be more like fall - I don't know. However can I guarantee if you use and enjoy Audulus that you'll get at least $10 worth out of it? Absolutely. It's 2-3 cups of coffee, depending on how fancy you like it. I guarantee that skills you learned in SunVox will translate to Audulus, and skills you pick up in Audulus will translate back into SunVox - it's just how using synths like these work! :)

@bresk thank you! Glad you're digging it :)

Actually I know SunXov pretty well but I have to remember to tell myself that it took probably six months of use before I was comfortable with how it worked.

I've been impressed with your patience on the forum here in answering our questions with good grace and humour so I bought Audulus this afternoon. You guys look pretty passionate about your product and have stuck around long enough to show that you are serious about supporting it.

First impressions are good, very good actually. The performance is really sweet on my 2018 iPad (basic not pro) and I enjoyed a couple of hours rifling through all the content. Lost audio a couple of times and had to restart the app but that maybe due to me not restarting the ipad after install. It's obvious I'm going to have to give this thing some time before I know what does what, but am suitably impressed. Figured out how to get this and Autony running in AB3 so am good for a few days.

  • @Jocphone Thanks! If you can figure out how to reproduce that audio loss bug consistently, we'd love to fix it. But true, restarting iPad after installing apps can sometimes do wonders lol - it's the iOS equivalent of blowing on the cartridge.

SunVox can host AUv3s, right? Maybe you'll be able to combine it and Audulus when we release our AUv3! :)

    Ok, seems straightforward.

    1. Background audio is off.
    2. Set a patch running.
    3. Switch to Audiobus forum in browser (using swipe from bottom of screen)
    4. Sound stops as expected.
    5. Switch back to Audulus.
    6. Patch is no longer playing and I don’t seem to be able to revive it, even if I load another patch.

I’m quite happy to admit user error if there is something I have overlooked.

Nope I think it is zMors that can host AUv3. SVox dev has said that he is working on hosting SV itself, as AU and VST plugins.

  • The interface looks brilliant and logical, but I've yet to hear any demos that sell me on its sonic character. Reverbs sound v good, but I haven't heard anything that shows Aududlus can do low end.
