Yeah, their samples are basically raw recordings through good preamps like @oat_phipps said.

And they give you lots of formats: Kontakt, Live, Logic EXS, sometimes Maschine, MPC1000/2500, Reason NN-XT, Structure, Battery, SFZ...

They do offer over 2gbs of free samples, but for $9 (from almost $2000) for everything (47gb), that's a steal.

It is indeed an unbelievable cornucopia for $9. I just wish they offered a 16 bit version. It’s 47 GB because the samples are 24 bit. Overkill for the space-challenged..And too much work to try to covert them all yourself. (When I bought the whole shebang deal last year, I gave up trying to covert them all.) This year they offer this “essential” set, which is supposed to help for exploring the vastness, but actually just ends up creating more bloat, because it leaves out too much. It ends up being an additional redundancy, since you’re still going to want to download the full versions. What is needed is simply a 16 bit version of the full sample set.

I thought this was supposed to be everything they've ever made, the entire library, is that not the case?

I got them all for $9! coupon code xX$9-AllxX3

Fab. I just got this. I feel like I've just robbed them.

According to a post on the KVR forum it it would seem that the $9.00 dollar code wasn't intended for general release, & got out into the wild unintentionally. I feel much better that i used the $19.00 dollar code now! Still a steal at that price for such a great library + i found a tenner in my wallet, that i had forgotten about, so it all turned out nice again! :)

Every instrument they’ve made, but not all the samples that make up the instruments. You don’t get all the variations, alternate hits, velocities etc., the synths are only the C note stretched per octave, etc.

I had hoped it would be simply 16 bit versions of the full instruments, but they took the slim-downed concept to greater extremes, I guess. Apparently, the idea of the “essential“ set is more for browsing and auditioning? Then you can “dive into full products later”, if needed. ?? I don’t know..

You can read more about it here:

I agree, I too prefer 16bit 44.1khz samples for the iPad, and it's too bad they don't offer that option. Maybe they'll start offering smaller packs once they realize that many of their customers are mobile device users.

But if f you have a Windows PC, try a free audio editor like Wavosaur that has a batch processor tool. Go into the Tools menu, click Batch Processor, then pick the folder with all the samples you want to convert, then select Convert to 16 bits. Works well and saves time.

  • Anyone using the Samples from Mars in Lyra or AudioLayer?

  • Samples From Mars are having a Black Friday sale again.
Including their entire collection for $39
    https://samplesfrommars.com/

  • SFM is great.

I'm tempted by this sale too, for 'out sounds':
    https://zero-g.co.uk/collections/top-offers/products/cinematic-toolbox-max-edition

After adding the free SoundSense pack of your choice and using the code 'BOOST20' at checkout, it works out at €32.72 for five big Zero-G packs, and that's a lot of crazy to draw on. It's mainly drones, pads, atmospheres, whooshes, explosions and weird shit, but some of the SoundSense packs are more conventional. There's one that has 500 rex drum loops played by a guy who's toured with Sheryl Crow and Michael Jackson, for instance. Zero-G has been going for a long time, and does really pro stuff.

I've tried several packs in Auria/Lyra. Really easy now that Files is here to copy paste from audioshare. However, there are always a few of the patches that won't play in Lyra, either because they are too complex/too layered/ or programmed with a parameter or something that Lyra can't handle [layman guesses why, might be something else entirely, but that's my best shot].

I'd estimate there are 3 or 4 presets per pack that won't play.

Edit:! But I haven't tried soundfont, have always used .exs. Maybe there's luck to be had there.

Double edit: oh, it's not 2018 anymore. :(

  • Mode Audio has everything on 50% - really good quality samples. And packs.

I do keep big sample packs external.

Also, I'm cross-platform, so don't feel a need to have everything always loaded onto the iPad. Mostly, it's auditioning and cherry-picking samples on the Mac, and curating a much smaller and easier-to-navigate 'active' pool. Everything in its right place.

It can be nice to hunt through a sample pack on the sofa, though. But yes. Unwieldy.

Is possible to use the sample inside and load the kontakt library in some auv3 instrument?

  • Kontakt-compatible AUv3... I don't know if anything does that yet. If there are *.exs files in there then AudioLayer might have it covered (or Lyra in Auria). If the instrument samples are named well and have their loop points baked in, then some kind of auto-scripting could sort it maybe?

There are tools out there like Chicken Systems' Translator, which works (after a certain amount of stress and swearing) but I can't recommend the company or the buggy product. It can be a means to an end for some tedious grind work, when your options are limited.

AudioLayer can auto import files and automap them if the files have names like my sample_C#5_110.wav (where 110 is the note velocity to which it should be mapped)

    Thanks chief.

    AudioLayer's looking good then, @Charlesalbert

Obsidian in NanoStudio 2 is another option. It works great with "Instrument Name C2.wav" style naming and it's my favourite place on the iPad, so it's where I'd put them. It's not AU, obviously, and not everybody wants to be stuck in NS2. Still, options!

I could not resist - 9$ is a too cool offer to not to buy it B)

@espiegel123 There are some sounds build from acoutisc intruments in the S612 package. In the soundcloud player on their all-products-from-mars page each demos shows the package used as cover-image in the top left side of the player.

    .

I‘ll think about buying Virsyn Audiolayer to directly use the ESX file contained in the packs... Unfortunately it is currently not on sale.

The Lyra sampler in Auria Pro also supports ESX

I bought the Samples From Mars deal. Trying to open the EXS files with AudioLayer, can’t seem to get it right. Keeps crashing AudioLayer. I have done it before, I must be putting the files in the wrong place and/or naming issues. Can someone help?. Cheers!

Never mind. I got it. Right in the manual. You have to copy both the EXS file and a folder with samples at the same level to the import folder within AudioLayer before doing anything. Otherwise it crashes.
