  • Why not use Ableton Link directly?

    Why not use Ableton Link

Hi how can do this please?
    Without a network connection?

    Thanx

  • You can use a mobile phone as a WiFi router, connect both iPads to it for Ableton Link to work.

  • You could use midi to link app on both iPads, and go AUM Link> Link to Midi> to other iPad > Midi to Link > AUM.

Ridiculous enough for you? That’s iOS.

I use midi clock, despite all of its problems, and avoid apps that rely exclusively on Link, because there are no wired connection solutions, and no way to slave them to a DAW other than Ableton. It’s too bad Korg WIST never caught on, it set both iPads apps to the same tempo, and sent a start message over Bluetooth. Kind an update to Midi time code, which let’s each device keep its own time, but tells them the tempo and when to start, and you rely on the accuracy of the internal clocks to keep things in sync for enough time to play a song, kind of like synchronizing watches.

  • No need to use wireless transmission between 2 iPads connected to an iCA4+
They are already connected by the iConnectivity virtual channels ;)
(same applies to a desktop DAW with an iPad using that interface - it double-hosts)

  • yep, and if you get your hands on an extra usb b to lightning cable, you can host two ipads and route audio and midi back and forth.

Does ApeMatrix can use midi clock? Do you know if it can slave to it? I don't have it, couldn't find a manual anywhere.
