An update from the Gestrument team!
Hey everyone!
In 24 hours we’ll be removing the old version of Gestrument from the app store. While we’re sad to see this one go, we’re super excited that we’ll be able to focus wholeheartedly on Gestrument Pro and a bunch of other cool projects we’ve got ahead of us.
Let us know if you have any questions and we'd be happy to help!
All the best

So, there will be no way to reinstall or install on a new device?
downloading the app via iTunes should still work to re- install via a computer if you do it before it's removed from the store.
Been holding off on the upgrade from the original... too many great deals on too many other apps. If I don't get it now, I am assuming the upgrade bundle price will be gone as well?
The bundle cost $2 more than Pro, and I own Gestrument Legacy. Thanks again, Apple.
Maybe check this? When I look at a page that has many apps on it, my price for the Gestrument upgrade bundle shows a price of $25.99 CA (Gestrument Pro app by itself is $23.99). BUT when I actually click on the bundle icon, it reveals a price of $16.00. It hesitates a bit before showing that price but it does. Maybe for you it stays stuck on the bigger price somehow. I'm even using iTunes 12.6.1.27 to view this on my iMac and it shows me the correct bundle price.
@royor Thanks, but the price remains the same on my iPhone.
Gestrument Pro for mayor!!
I just checked my bundle price. Mine comes up as $10, but YeOld Gestrument by itself is only $7.
Did the fake purchase, but the price didn’t change for me, either.
I bought the new-fangled Gestrument at the launch price.
I'm not sure if it can be removed completely - just unavailable for new purchase.
@Gestrumentsander, does that mean you’ll have more time to update Scalegen or bring its features to Gestrument Pro? 😁
I'm pretty sure you can. The app remains in your history.
And the bundle price takes the actual price you paid for apps into account. When you bought one for almost nothing a bundle can be more expensive.
No idea why Apple can't seem to figure out the best deal for you though.
A lot of them are already there, but yes, that's the plan!
For me, the best way has always been to save the apps i enjoy the most on a hard drive, and install them from a computer if I want them back. At some point it might stop working due to iOS updates, but on any device you have it now it should keep working for many years if not always.
yyeeeeeeaaaah, we've been having a bunch of issues with this. We wanted to give you all an easy way to upgrade if you were a user of the previous app, but apple doesn't really provide any such options on the app store, so the bundle was a workaround that should have had the same effect as an upgrade price plan. Unfortunately, things didn't work out with the bundle, and stuff just became more confusing for everyone. The general idea of the bundle pricing is that the price you paid for Gestrument Legacy would be subtracted from the price of the bundle. However, apple doesn't immediately display that price when viewing the bundle. The best solution we've found (with the help of a bunch of friendly users) is to get in touch with apple directly and describe the issue to them. It seems like this has been the most reliable way to get it fixed
Hopefully, that's true, but scrolling through hundreds of apps is a PITA, and I have dozens of apps where the download button is greyed out.
@Gestrumentsander Thanks for the info, but all the caveats add up to a hassle and a poor user experience. I expect better from Apple...at least, I used to.
You should definitely back up the old app to a hard drive if you want it for later.
I have some apps that are gone for good, even from my purchase history.
Never did the hard drive backup/reinstall myself, but sometimes wish I did.
Gestrument Pro still appears to have a problem retriggering notes with some apps, such as Bram Bos’s Ripplemaker and Troublemaker. Can this be resolved?
I think they are the ones that won't work because they are 32 bit.
Unfortunately, you can only back up apps to hard disk if you have an ancient iOS version. I can't remember when the sandboxing/backups changed. But, I think that iOS 10 backups (for instance) no longer included the actual apps.
I think you can still get an old version of iTunes with app store and download apps, but I haven't tried it lately.
Thanks for the reminder. I've got an iPad 2 socked away somewhere with iOS 7. Maybe I'll look into those "oldies but goodies" over the holidays.
I think the iOS version matters, too. You may only be able to install the old iTunes that did this on a machine with an old OS, too.
Here's a link for the older version of iTunes (12.6.5). This version of iTunes is not compatible with macOS Mojave.
