Looks like no midi input on the modular, interesting design choice.

maybe its hiding or maybe they've got those 1/8 midi jacks
Volca Drum as well?
True dat!
I spot CV input. I so want this thing to be real.
I've never really understood modular, but that looks like an affordable insta-buy for those inclined to patch and tweak...
The Volca Drum has me far more interested. That LCD screen is an exciting first, and a digital drum machine in this form factor is immediately intriguing. What I can't tell is what "digital" means. Is this just a bunch of pre-loaded PCM/samples, or will they finally offer some kind of USB connectivity or flash memory expansion to make this a true step forward?
The Sample became the de facto "Volca Drum Machine" for a lot of people, due to the crummy snare and other limitations of the Volca Beats. But the Sample was still pretty handicapped by memory limitations and the bizarre 3rd-party workaround solutions you need to get new samples on the thing. I now carry a bunch of fax machine-style data bursts in AudioShare, representing 10-instrument banks I can send over to the Sample. It really shouldn't be like that in 2018 - it should be drag and drop, even on a budget piece of hardware.
This news better be true, but there have been a TON of fake Volca reports over the years...
I see "Wave Guide" on the Volca Drum.
So Digital Waveguide synthesis? The extension to KPS? So hopefully metallic percussion like drum membranes, bells, tubes, and other ringing things.
Hopefully it has noise too - that'll make it much easier to program than FM for similiar sounds. Wonder if it has a 'chromatic mode'.
I bet the Modular sells well, but more digital synthesis stuff is good to see.
there have been volca mock ups for a long time. some much better than others but yeah, try not to get too excited...

Ahhh too late.
wheres the official confirmation? all i can find are unconfirmed unofficial reports.
No official confirmation
The weird keyboard layout on the module with dual functions per key makes me think it's real. Seems to me it would be a strange thing to include in a fake you were trying to pass off as real since it's so different. Lack of MIDI in and lack of a full sized gate input are bummers for sure. Dual low-pass gates though! Hopefully it has some amount of normalization. I wonder if the clock divided outputs are strong enough to drive the sync in port on other volcas. If so, I probably won't be able to resist it.
Drum machine looks really well spec'd with layering and randomization for layers and patterns. I wonder what the SEND knob does? I don't see effects. Graphic seems to indicate it's going to Wave Guide, whatever that is. Most promising thing I see is save and load program independent of save and load kit. Probably related to individual sounds but I really really really hope programs consist of 16 drum patterns! I don't see any pattern/song related controls otherwise so I'm just gonna stick with hoping.
I have a really, really hard time believing this. I remember they were on one convention some months ago and there was a suitcase full of volcas, but only ONE spare space for a „soon(TM) to be announced“ device. Not two.
Volca drum looks fake
