Can someone please create a good "traditional" sampler app?
Caustic and BeatMaker 2 have the best "traditional" samplers on iOS in my opinion. But they're stuck into iOS DAWs with intrincate UIs and lack many aspects of patch programmability. Caustic doesn't have layers, and both have too few parameters to come up with a good multisampled instrument.
Why we still don't have something like Reason's NN-XT, for example? I know something like Kontakt would be heavy on the hardware, but I run Reason smoothly since the early 2000s and my desktop at the time was crap if compared to todays standards (even the iPad). If I were a dev I certainly would have created such an app...

I agree! ThumbJam was supposed to be getting updates for this, but currently it has a bug that causes glitches. When the updates are done and everything is working, it may well be the closest thing we'll have to a standalone multisampler. However, it would be a dream to have something like Reason's NN-XT!
NN-XT looks like quite a beast. What functionality would you want from an iOS sampler? All of NN-XT or some specific subset?
Beatmaker 2
Is the best traditional sampler for iOS
Nanostudios sampling synth standalone on IOS would be cool but with the extra features of bm2
You can use Beatmaker just as a sampler instrument in Audiobus.I'm doing this with the Drumsampler and Cubasis quite often.
The normal BM2 sampler me don't like.Too unintuitive..
The problem with using Beatmaker is the size bloat and the RAM/CPU overhead of having to hook up an entire DAW (Beatmaker) to another DAW (your preferred choice), in order to sample. It would be better to have a standalone app. Currently, even without multisampling, I'm using SampleWiz, because it's easy, light, and about the best I can do for now. :-)
NN-XT is an absolute beast. Layers, splits, vol and mod envelopes, loop start/ends down to samples accuracy (one of my favorite lead sounds in Reason is actually just a percussive sample looped so small that it self-oscillates)
I miss working in Reason. Just never liked the sequencer, but I haven't used a more recent version than 5
On beatmaker 2 you can layer different sample on same note with different velocity for active it….
So if you play gently play one sample and if you play hard play the other :-)
Bismark's bs-16i will do that if you load the right soundfont...
Trouble with the BM2 velocity switched layering is it is a switch, not a crossover blend, IIRC. What's a good tool to turn .wav into .sf2? Will SoundFont Pro do that natively on the iPad?
@dwarman There are several tools (some even free) for Windows/Mac/Linux platforms, but I don't know of any for iOS..... :-(
NNXT ? Yes please !
ST
+infinity on NNXT!
iOS is definitely in need of a sound font editor so we can create our own sound fonts.
Just found this thread...a bit old i gotta say.
I got a concept (wireframe & design) for a sampling app in the drawer, inspired by the ensoniq EPS16+.
Looking for a developer right now. Anyone?
Sir Sampleton, or Elsa.
Beat machine.
