Studiomux Server Problems

I've emailed the developer about this but - as usual - got no response.

I’m running the server on MacOS Mojave 10.14.2

Sometimes I notice that my fan is spinning up when the MacBook is in sleep mode. Upon checking in the activity monitor Studiomux Server is always doing weird stuff. It usually seems to be using basically all available RAM (16GB total) even though I'm not actually using the server with an iOS device - the server is just 'active'.

The server also gives a great deal of trouble when trying to quit it….refuses to shut down even when I force quit.

Any ideas?

  • Have you considered not using it? There's not any reason to use it on a Mac as far as I know. It stopped working on my Windows PC over a year ago. On my Mac i just use the built in functionality to connect my I devices

  • Yes, I have considered not using it - in fact, I'm often forced to not use it due to its unreliability.

But I can't use IDAM because it is impossible to aggregate my audio interface together with the iPhone (using IDAM) - the iRig HD 2 (which I use live) is a buggy little f**ker when you try to aggregate it (but works fine standalone). It's another issue that IK have made it difficult to even report -- but that's another story. Working live, I need to use this interface for reasons of portability and that point is not negotiable currently.

With that out of the way... any ideas about why the software would be behaving this way?

  • You may have more luck contacting the devs via the zerdebug forum. I know they have been very responsive with touchable pro here, so this might be the place to get their attention.

Not sure about other DAWs, but for my setup (DP + 828mk3) it is not necessary to create an Aggregate Device (which I like to call an Aggrevating Device) in order to use IDAM.

In DP, go to Set Up->Configure Audio System->Configure Hardware Driver. You should see “iPad (input)” in the list. If you are using an audio interface it should also appear in the list. Command-Click so that both are selected and click OK. I would imagine it would be similar with other DAWs.

I do, however, still prefer Studiomux over IDAM for various reasons.

As far as I know Mojave is not yet ready for prime time for most audio apps, so issues are to be expected at this time.

According to the Sweetwater list, many major apps remain unconfirmed for Mojave support. And as far as I know, Studiomux has not been updated in a long time so I would not be surprised if it is problematic with it.

  • Iso, yes, Thanks. I'm doing that now -- it's a shiny new forum!!!

Lady_App_titude, Also -- thanks. Is 'DP' Digital Performer? I use Ableton and it is not an option in there AFAIK, but funnily enough, I was having a conversation with a musical colleague just a few days ago about the merits of Digital Performer...Might have to check it out ;)

Yes, there is a lot to like about Digital Performer, esp if you are working to picture. I also have Live Suite 9, but have never tried it with iPad. Maybe I’ll try poking around with it and see what’s what.

  • If you can aggregate your devices Ableton works very very well and routing is a breeze. It has some very neat unique features.

I suppose I need to find an alternative to the iRig HD 2. But it is bus-powered and it has both a 3.5mm stereo out and a 1/4" mono out that I find really handy. I haven't seen any other compact interface with that feature.

But, I still dream of being able to go full iOS...maybe someday...

Probably not helpful, but I had it working in windows as vst generator in fl studio 12.5, but the next time I tried to use it, it wouldn’t show the iPad anymore when connected. This was less than 3 weeks ago that it worked though.
I went full iOS, get an audiofuse and it’s cake all day. I haven’t used pc for production in weeks, still some useful tools on desktop, but iOS is so close that it’s rare to use computer for me anymore.
