Is turnado worth buying ?
Just wondering if I should fork out a tenner on it?
Comments
I would say absolutely yes, so many different effects options and real time control possibilities. I'm still getting my head around it but have made some amazing sounds just messing around with it.
Absolutely. One of the finest game changers around. Simply an awesome toy to mess around with and a great tool for any composer. Add some light delay, reverb or all kinds of other effects, or completely mentalise anything into something wildly different. The randomise button is worth the entry fee.
Anyone know if the Auria IAP is on sale as well (sorry, not by my ipad? Can you simply use AB/IAA?
The great thing with Turnado and Wow is that Auria auto detects that they are installed and then the native Auria plugin versions become available. In fact that's the only way to get them.
Thanks guys

If you purchase the iOS/Stand alone version of Turnado, the one in Auria will be unlocked for free. The other way around doesn't work. If that's what you meant.
For 10 bucks, I'd say definitely. Even if you're not into electronic stuff, slicing, dicing and juggling beats around, Turnado contains so many crazy effects/tools there's always something to be found inside it to help spice up that boring synth sound or drumtrack etc.
Just by messing around with Turnado for a few minutes, I managed to (unintentionally) come up with one of the coolest and funkiest wah-wah effects for electric piano that I'd ever heard. I use it with either Neo Soul Keys or bs-16i via Audiobus in the effect slot. Very cool app.
Yes.
If you like extreme and moving effects, yes absolutely. If you want an all-in-one general effects processor (like a rackmount effects unit with reverb/delay/flange/blah) I think you're better off getting Magellan.
Turnado is amazing but if you just want to call up a delay there is a lot of overhead involved and, to my ears anyway, most of the individual effects are often outdone by other iOS apps. As an example, EchoPad or aufx:dub sound way better to my ears than Turnado's delays. But the shit that you can do to the delays is what makes Turnado well, Turnado!
Absolutely worth 10 bucks (way more actually) if you like for stuff to get wild. An amazing app. I'm just saying this out loud because we tend to get excited about apps around here but sometimes they are not a one-size-fits-all sort of solution.
Ok just bought it and its awesome. Very happy
Congrats you'll love it!
Agree with everything syrupcore said.
I'm about to buy this as well. I'm thinking Turnado will do for me what I thought Glitchbreaks was going to do. Also does turnado pretty much cover all of the capabilities of "Wow filter box"?
@Syrupcore has it spot on.
I disagree with syrupcore, but only because I'm a contrarian. Otherwise, I think he's absolutely right.
No you don't...
Had been teetering (I'm always bloody teetering and I always bloody fall) as regards Turnado, but this little thread pushed me straight into the pit.
It's amazing.
And especially automated in Auria. Obviously seriously deep, but also very satisfying to open up something from the 'Vague Idea' back catalog and BANG. Or any other odd noise or variation you might consider.
It would be interesting to do a competition sort of thing with a single 12 second sample and Turnado. You could get so much out of it and everything would likely sound really really different. I think people with Auria and automation would be a distinct advantage though because it really does open up a lot of possibilities.
For all of my joking, I am getting to the point where the (happy) overload of apps is very probably eating into specific creative work. So much easier to fiddle with pure (and impure) sounds rather than sit in front of the blank piece of paper.
As a result I have been considering a moratorium on adding to my collection. But then this piece of genius proved me wrong.
I like the 12 second idea. I think I could take Larkin at his most lugubrious and make something snappy with this thing.
During the last sugar bytes sale i knew i wanted effectrix but was skeptical about turnado...thinking turnado was more of a dj tool. Which im no dj.
But i was definitely wrong. Its not just for live dj stuff. I think it blows effectrix outta the water. I know its kind of an apple an orange comparison but turnado is much more versatile. I love me some turnado. It is as deep as it is simple.
Something to be mentioned about is ,currently Turnado crashes on audiobus2 and 1024 buffer size. Otherwise it's one of the best fx apps . My only wish is they add a long-looong looper effect but the app is amazing!
EDIT: Turnado got an update and supports AB2 state saving and works flawlessly!
Sorta surprised so many people like this one. I love the idea and it's great on the computer, but on iOS I find the interface way toooo fiddly personally. Makes cool sounds, but it reminds me of trying to use Reason on an iPhone.
Funny to see this, because I just deleted the app yesterday from my iPad. Quality sounds, and a great way to get random combinations of effects rapidly. But for playing guitar and bass, at least for me it's not worth the fiddling about.
@joegrant413 I can see that. That's the the fun of all this I guess. We can agree (mostly) on any app's fundamental strengths and weaknesses from a technical aspect but from then on it's such a subjective matter, dependent on taste, workflow and musical direction.
For me this app vaulted straight into The Top Ten and I woke up ready to play with it some more. Can't say the wife was thrilled, but, as an Englishman lost here in America, I've always found July 4th a good day to keep my head down and get some 'work' done
I have been using Turnado increasingly. Once you get beyond the occasionally whacky presets :-) there is a lot of depth - esp. when you begin to mess with the underlying settings for each FX component. Plus - it's usable inside Auria.
Turnado is the best fx app I own, period. There's such a wealth of fx combinations and control possibilities that I'd buy it for twice as much. It doesn't matter that you are a guitarist. You can record a guitar loop in loopy and run it through turnado and tweak it into awesomeness. I think people who compare it to a stompbox are missing the point. If you're into groove stuff get it without a delay!
