All I want for xmas is my fave NI apps to go iOS....

Any clue as to why NI hasn't at least ported a full Maschine over to iOS? If they did it would open up a lot of my old tracks to iOS, and the iPad is nearly 3x faster and much smaller than my laptop anyhow, for simplicity and portability sake it would be amazing.

I sent a letter to NI a while ago asking why they didn't have this, as the software comes bundled with the hardware... The response was a terse "No plans for that". AU Maschine would be rad, and if it were either tied to hardware serial, or a paid upgrade that needs the hardware to run, it wouldn't mess with Beatmaker much.

And TraktorPro... I have an S5 and it won't even do anything with the crappy iTraktor, so that thing is useless without a laptop at this point. Reaktor would be so much fun on an ipad, as would many other NI products. Hell, I bet many legacy users would cough up 'higher than usual app' prices for this stuff.

I think it might take some years until N.I. see a market here. But i think it will happen some day while also app prices slightly increase more and more.
The only N.I. tools i would like to see on iOS at the moment would be my favorite delay, Replika XT and Kontakt of course. Maybe the coming Massive X (but that might be overhyped already).
Reaktor would be great but actually i think Beepstreets Drumbo is a better modular playfield for a multi-touch screen and i think the DSP behind it is as good as it can get on iOS.
Would be great if Drumbo would be just a start and new modules could be created by other developers or users.
So yes, here i would love a concept like Reaktor, Kontakt, VCV, Voltage Modular and some others with a platform people can create amazing things. I think it might happen too in the future but maybe it´s one of the independent developers and not one of the big bad guys who will start it.....who knows.

as mentioned in another thread: their software is based on a huge (!) library, 'hidden' in a system folder. To port that into another digital world would never pay off in current IOS economics. Probably colliding with some of Apple's rules, too - but that's a minor issue.

  • I don't want Kontakt on my iPad. The UI is one of the worst I've seen in terms of usability. I guess you could get used to it, but I choose other more refined options.

That‘s true and also a major thing it won‘t get ever a touch screen interface. I also think about some third party GUIs inside Kontakt looks pretty good....until you enter the edit options of the full Kontakt.
    But is machine much better?

  • I would pay good money for that. Just imagine Reaktor, Absynth or Kontakt, optimized for touch screen...aaand that’s the moment I stop dreaming because it’ll never happen. At least not until something drastically changes in regard to the App Store economical model, I guess. It’s a shame.

  • They can't even make retina versions of their desktop apps 😏

Lol...true. A GUI update is a lot requested but from answers in forums it seems they have to deal with so much old legacy code and stuff that it seems a major approach and the risk to break something is too big.
Even Apple still updated maybe the half or less into the retina world. When there is something iOS is often far ahead compared to the desktop world it is about GUIs.
But then there if you see all the U-he plug-ins i wonder why not everyone can do it.
The worst might be the Virsyn plug-ins. OMG.......so 1980 while their iOS apps looks great to me.

Omg so true, for almost all the desktop stuff, makes 4K become useless and more of an annoyance when you can’t scale certain plugins at all, get your microscopes out...

I also wonder, even 5k screens are not so future these days and still unusable with some plug-ins.
If iOS apps would allow custom skins it would be GUI heaven.

Haha yeah that would be cool, I used to jailbreak everything, you can do A LOT to iOS with root access. You could easily make older or low res apps look sexual again.
