Black Mirror - Bandersnatch

Who's watched/played the new Black Mirror choose your own adventure movie thing? It was pretty cool - a bit gimmicky - but I enjoyed myself for an hour and a half.

Those who haven't checked it out yet - there's a choice in the movie where you get to pick which record the main character buys (for background music when he's programming). You have to choose between Tangerine Dream - Phaedra album and Isiah Tomito - Bermuda Triangle album (had never heard of this one before).

Also the one programmer has a big old analogue synth in his living room - but I couldn't make out what it was.

  • Oh cool, I just noticed some Minecraft you own adventure things on it the other day and was wondering when they would do live action.

  • I just watched it 30 minutes ago :#
    I wouldn´t watch this on a LSD trip...... :D

I think it is a Minimoog.

Yeah. It was a cool concept. I liked it, but it was probably a bit more frustrating than fun.

    Looked like a Minimoog.

I went back to it this morning and did different choices to see the alternative outcomes. More fun than on first viewing.

  • I love the concept. I watched it through once and went back later to find all the alternate scenes and endings. I love that if you mess up and have to go back, the script changes on certain scenes. It’s amazing. I can’t imagine how long it took them to do it. They also released the game for download that was featured in the film https://tuckersoft.net/ealing20541/nohzdyve/

Also the subtle soundtrack is nice. I love 80s music and aesthetics so I really enjoyed Bandersnatch overall. I definitely recommend everyone go try it out

I read only 35 days to shoot it - but who knows how long the planning and writing

    Wow 35 days that’s insane

  • Brooker has said it took WAAAYYY too long and he wouldn't go down that rabbit hole again....

Have just heard about this, more interested in checking out the Tomita album first though.

  • ...so far, so awesome!

Was very cool. Chose Phaedra but now I want to go through it again with the tomita soundtrack.
The guy who played Colin was very good too bad there was not more of him. Black Mirror is incredible.

  • Just watched this - well partially watched actually. Got about thirty minutes in and got stuck in a loop - played through 10 tomes and had to give up - buggered if I was going to give in to the film makes choice. Not sure what that makes my mental state! Great idea - Brooker is a genius when it comes to off the wall stuff - I hope he would have approved of my choice.

  • Watched it last night. Loved the concept and the soundtrack and thought it had great potential. It started really strong and I was really into it for a while but ultimately it missed a lot of opportunities and fell apart for me at the end. Slightly disappointing but not a total waste of time, and I genuinely hope they do more.

Yeah I agree with this. I tried it again today with different choices. Turns out I didn’t miss much and first time through was more enjoyable.
Hope this idea is built upon though.

  • Still havent watched the show, but the Tomita Bermuda Triangle album is awesome. Listening for the third time now.

  • Woah, this show legit had a couple of my memories in it. Now wtf?
