Troublemaker Q
When I launch Troublemaker in AUM I get synth presets but no sequencer and when I launch it stand alone I get the sequencer and it’s presets but no synth presets. Is it supposed to be like that?
Comments
are you launching as an audio unit?
in trouble maker standalone there are no synth presets just waveform selection.
Yes using as audio unit in the AUM scenario, I don’t see the sequencer.
Only Noir comes with seq when used as AU, the rest of the 'makers' sound modules only, intended to be driven by rozeta suite or other sequencers.
yep, Rozeta Baseline replaced Troublemaker’s sequencer
If you don’t have Rozeta, you can use the standalone sequencer to send midi to an AU instance. Then you can use presets for the AU synth.
you can also use Noir sequencer for troublemaker just disable the synth engine in noir
I prefer SPAU as a sequencer for Troublemaker (and all in AUM)
Interesting.. does SpaU trigger the slides and accents properly?
Ok thanks all, I have rozeta already so no problem, it’s just weird that the AU3 and standalone have different features.
@brambos if I sequenced my hardware 303 clone (xoxbox) with rozeta would the slides and accents work properly? If not is there a way to dump the sequence into the hardware so it plays properly?
I think xoxbox also uses velocity for triggering accents and overlapping notes for slides, so I guess that should work.
The original guidelines for AUs were to be sound sources, and the sequencing should be left up to the hosts/sequencers, so Troublemaker was designed according to this philosophy. This is also the reason that AUs were supposed to be designed in a letterbox format: to leave sufficient space for the host to offer sequencing and playing surfaces.
SpaU supports all midi specialities needed for Troublemaker :
When using arp mode, one can transpose the sequence using keyboard input or other midi generators - but the sequence only plays while the input note is held.
Are there other ways to trigger slides, besides overlapping notes?
Are there other ways to create accents, besides velocity changes?
I know you can send multiple low velocity notes simultaneously and make an accent with some synths, and use pitchbend to create slides too. But does Troublemaker use some other methods to achieve these types of articulations, other than overlap/velocity?
I just assumed overlapping notes and velocity changes were how to do it with most monophonic synths, but would like to know if there are more ways to achieve these results.
Nope, those are the only ways. Also the standard ways to do it on other synths. Why break conventions?

Just overlap and velocity.
You can automate the parameters such as accent and cutoff for other effects, but no, there are no other ways to get slides and accents.
Ah, thanks for the info.

Have an awesome 2019, good sir!
Thank you as well.

I learned a ton of stuff reading your posts in 2018.
Have a happy, productive 2019!
Heh! Same!
You too!
Troublemaker pairing great with WaveFolder btw
Aggressive without mushing out the character.
Yes, everything works fine, as described above.
