After a lot of feedback, here's Drop Beats v1.2 which now lets you stream live for free from shared servers:

Would appreciate more feedback so I can continue to improve features. Thanks!

  • Hi, thanks for the heads up and the tutorial. I see this works in the output of an AUM channel. Would it mean that in order to stream the mix output of all channels I’d have to bus it to a master channel with Drop Beats at the end of it?

Actually, you don't need AUM at all. I suspect you could use Drop Beats on an AUM channel, but I don't have experience using AUM. Drop Beats can be used as a basic Audiobus receiver / output port just like other apps that record or process audio from inputs like Launchpad in the demo video.

Ah ok, sorry I got the two confused. Nice one, that should work. Thanks

Awesome, let me know how it goes. I'd appreciate any feedback you may have. Cheers!

  • Hey that’s pretty neat, I like how the recipient doesn’t need an app to listen.

One suggestion I have is an option to stream to Twitch or YouTube which people are more familiar with and also provides a better chance to be discovered randomly.

Yeah, that's a really good point. I do plan to add those features. My first release was focused on live streaming that does not need a host provider like Facebook or YouTube. Particularly, it's difficult (impossible?) to stream audio only on FB. Twitch and YouTube are also very video in nature. And what if you just want to share with a smaller audience of friends or colleagues, and not everyone on FB or YouTube? With Drop Beats, you get a URL that you can share in chat apps, post on your own website, or just send to a single friend via text. You don't need FB, YouTube, et. al., and your friends don't need to download the app.

From some musician and DJ friends, I've also heard how hard it is to setup their equipment to stream live gigs. Software thusfar has been complicated. I did another demo video that shows a short piano / viola duet and how to connect a small mixer right to an iPhone with an iRig 2 cable. One button touch and we're live streaming....
