  • I can run four instances on my iPad Pro 10.5” before it gets unstable. Playing four of them simultaneously... wow.

Are you able to select different Generator Presets in the 2nd instance? Not just different Scenes?

Changing scenes will change the gen presets but I can’t seem to browse gen presets manually on anything other than first instance. Good bug to report.

  • Hey thanks @rezidue for confirming the issue. I sent Igor the details (w/ photos) and he's acknowledged the issue. No ETA on the update but it'll come.

  • Does anyone else think the 'key' and 'voice' check boxes work backwards for the setting the Glide mode on the Keyb screen? I asked Igor and he says he will change it if I think it's wrong, but I wanted to see what others think.

What I see is, when the option is set to 'key', sliding between keys has no glide (assuming the P and C keyboard toggles are off), but holding a key and pressing another one (which I think is introducing a second voice) does - in other words, the pitch of the second voice slides up from the first note to the new one on a time scale according to the setting of the knob. This is the behaviour I would have expected when the glide option is set to 'voice', since it is active when I add a new voice.

On the contrary, when it is set to 'key' I would expect the glide to be active when I change the key that I am holding down (by sliding my finger to another key). That said, my intuition about how this ought to work is different when I use a MIDI keyboard. When I hold down a key and press a second one, getting a glide up to the new note doesn't seem so backwards.

  • I get what you're saying, but could it be the unusual labels/terms/words that Igor uses?

From the manual at the bottom of this page:
    https://motion-soundscape.blogspot.com/2019/01/synthscaper-le-multitimbral-atmospheric.html

"Key"  In this mode glide will occurs when the next key pressed before release previous key.
"Voice"  In this mode glide will occurs when key pressed and previous voice still active.

    Still confusing.

  • So I'm new to SynthScaper (full), but it occured to me that LE's parameters are similiar to the full version's Designer - basically the 10 parameters on the right-side of the Designer window (8 parameters for each of the 3 Generators, plus the 2 global reverb parameters).

(Ignore the yellow numbers next to the knobs, it's a cheat sheet for the Korg nanoKey Studio MIDI CC mappings.)

  • ”key"  In this mode glide will occurs when the next key pressed before release previous key.
"Voice"  In this mode glide will occurs when key pressed and previous voice still active.

    Still confusing.

Ah, I did’t See those two lines. Makes a bit (!) more sense when there’s an explanation. The manual page is probably going to be full-screen in the update.

  • Oh WOW! I’m Loving SE! That builtin sequencer and arp are awesome. And setting up different sequences for each generator that’s got a different preset assigned to it.. means it’s possible to have incredibly complex compositions going with just one instance. Insane!

It took me a good while to relearn the general syntax of the SynthScaper file system... but after it clicked again, it’s spectacular to create new scenes in SynthScaper and then “open in” to SynthScaper LE. I’ve started just exporting them to a Dropbox folder so that I can easily copy to my iPhone install too. Sweet

Definitely not as “light” as I was anticipating, and I prefer the streamlined interface in the LE version for multiple instance use.

Using only SynthScaper LE’s builtin sequencers to drive all the generators... I had a grand cacophony of sequenced sound going from 5 instances and only about a 50% cpu hit.

How do you export your SynthScaper scenes to the LE version? I am looking around but cannot find it :(

It's not the most intuitive ;) But here goes...

After you save your newly created patch (called a "scene"), go to the presets page. You can either put several scenes in a group, or you can export a single "scene". From the presets page select either the Group or Scene that you want to export. Then click the (Un) Pack link text at the top right of the presets page. This will pack for export (also used to unpack).

Then, go to the "Files" page. The link is at top right of the main page 3rd one down. You'll find your "packs" here.

(you can do all of this from the iPhone too install too, but the links are in slightly different locations)

After you select the packed scene or packed group, you'll see the "Open In" at the bottom of the Files window.

The key thing to remember is that they have to be "packed" before you can export them. You can "Open In" to Dropbox, Files app, etc. or just select "Synthscaper LE" to open in/copy to directly.

Like I said, it's not the most intuitive set up for files management, but it has it's own logic. Once you successfully do it. I'd recommend doing it several times to make sure you don't forget... like I always do. ;)

  • This explains how to download a Scenes Pack (from the developer Igor himself):
    https://motion-soundscape.blogspot.com/2019/01/noise-scenes-pack-for-synthscaper.html

But this seems to work too (for the entire process):
    In Synthscaper:
In the Scene Presets window up top, select the Scene Group you want to copy, tap the '(Un) Pack' button, then 'Pack' the Scene Group.
Then close that window, tap 'Files' on the right of the main window, tap Groups tab, select the *.synthscaper file, then tap 'Open in', then 'Save to Dropbox' or 'Save to Files' (not the regular 'Dropbox' or 'Files' icon), and the *.synthscaper file should be in DropBox or Files App.

    In Synthscaper LE:
In the Scene Presets window up top, tap 'Import scenes', tap 'Browse' at the bottom, navigate to where you saved it, tap the file and it will unpack and now be in the Scene Presets list.

I couldn't find a way to directly 'Copy to' or 'Open in' LE.

It would be nice if we could open individual 'Gen Presets' though, but we cannot.

Also, if someone can explain how to sync the arp or sequencers to host, that would be helpful.

  • Ahh, you beat me to it skiphunt :)

Are you able to get the internal arps or sequencers to sync to your AU or IAA host?

  • Thanks @skiphunt and @ocelot . Got it! :)

  • edited January 2019

    👍

Igor mentioned that an update will likely be released this week that enables browsing generator presets manually on anything other than first AU instance.

BPM in AU doesn't follow the host BPM, so arps and sequencers don't sync. (IAA-mode does sync to host BPM). It's been reported. Someone correct me if they can get arps+sequencers sync'ed when run as AU.
EDIT: So the Arp does sync in certain AU Hosts (AUM and Cubasis), but doesn't sync in other hosts (Audiobus 3 or BM3). Anyone else care to test?

  • I see there is now a bundle, $27 to complete my collection, I think I’ll just buy LE at $8. :D

    Gotta love the App Store.

  • Yeah, to complete my bundle was more than buying it a la carte.

  • For me the bundle price was 18.99 € (including 16.99€ SynthScaper and 5.49 SynthScaper LE) - which means a saving of 3.49€ B)

  • Standard price: £4.99, bundle price for me: £7.00.

  • Yeah I bought Synthscaper at the intro sale price so the bundle is more than the standard 4.99 also. I thought that might happen, but wanted to wait just to see.

@MonzoPro Thats the „usual Apple way“ of calculating bundle prices - they don‘t use the percentage of bundle reduction against the current prices, but instead they substract the old price that you payed. So you probably bought SynthScaper with a reduced initial pricing.

personal bundle price = specified bundle price minus already paid for included apps

I know. I still think it’s silly though.

  • Great Update! Arp now syncs to host's BPM in AB3 and BM3. Plus the preset lists are now there in all the AU instances.

    1.1 Feb 6, 2019
This update improves work of app when use as Audio Unit and adds new modes. SynthScaper LE continues to develop and improve.

    • Fixed problem with presets list in AU instances.
    • Added hotkeys bar when full screen keyboard.
    • Help panel opens on full screen.
    • Added mode when sequencer knobs use "Scale" range (in standalone).
    • Fixed problem with BPM sync when work with some AU hosts.
    • Improved work in "freeze" mode in DAWs (exclude sequencer).
    • Fixed problem with restore last selected scene when start as AU.
    • Improved work of arpeggiator when changing keys.
    • Added several new scenes and presets.

@MarkH 'Scaper tutorials on YouTube have been really helpful. Thanks to Captain Mark.

  • I reckon ‘Captain Mark’ needs a medal for these ‘scaper’ tutorials. Thanks @MarkH

    Thanks :)

BTW, does anyone understand why YT messes with the volume of my videos? This video and most other recent ones have annoying drop-outs in the sound, which give the impression of a sluggish auto level control. There should be no need for such a control and the effect is jarring. An example is on the word "modest" at 1:09 in the video linked above, but there are many examples following.

Just picked up SynthScaper LE for use as an AU in NanoStudio.

I love it, but I don’t see any SynthScaper parameters exposed to NanoStudio as a host. It’s a real shame because it would be great to be able to assign and modulate parameters in NS2.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  • I’m trying to send a preset I made in Synthscaper over to Synthscaper LE. The manual says I need to add presets to a Group in order to Pack it to share. I can not find any option to Group presets. Can anyone help me figure out what I’m not seeing?

  • Igor has said he’s working on making the file system better to understand. In the meantime, the (Un) Pack always threw me off because I thought it meant unpack. It actually does both, it packs AND unpacks.
