Tales of the Rainy Season - Ambient Instrumental

This track was started in Gadget but then exported to Auria so that I could use the amazing Mitosynth presets created by @Spidericemidas along with a bunch of other synths (FabFilterTwin 2, Zeeon) and a Duduk from BeatHawk for the intro lead. Drums were made in Patterning and lots of samples were layered over and under the music.

  • Really good composition and a wealth of great sounding instruments.

I have to get that Dudek... I'm a double reed addict.
They just speak to me like no other solo horn.

Hey thanks! Yeah the Duduk sounds really evocative, I'll have to seriously resist the urge to overuse it :)

It's from the Middle Eastern pack in BeatHawk.

I wish I could find a sax that had that sense of realism. I have Sensual Sax and it never fools me into thinking I hired a sax player. This Duduk sounds like a human is blowing on a horn.
Maybe it's something about the double reeds that lend themselves to sampling... gentle attack, complex harmonic structure like a saw tooth I think (odd harmonics?), and suitable for an LFO style vibrato without sounding like a machine. I just love the oboes, bassoon, Sorna, etc for creating a pensive mood.
I live with a pensive mood. "Most men lead lives of quiet..." oboe.

Great mix as one would expect from you... an open spacious sound scape.

This is so gorgeous!!! Very well done! My mind’s eye was just wondering through some ancient and exotic scenery whilst listening to this. It’s got a really organic atmosphere and feel to it. Almost prehistoric, but my imagination might be influenced by your Dinosaur profile pic! 😉 I can hear my MitoSynth stuff in there! It’s so good to hear my stuff being used and contributing to the making of something so cool as this. Thanks for posting and sharing! Love it 👊👊

Thanks - and thanks also for creating and sharing those Mitosynth presets, because they are a-m-a-z-i-n-g !

It's that bit at the end where she's finally dead and he's walking off wishing he'd been grateful when the going was good. And it's raining.

    Really nice work, Mister Yot.

  • One of your best, Richard. I think BeatHawk inapp sales are gonna get a bump from this track. Did you use a lot of mod wheel with the reed? Who wouldn't love that lead. McD loves the bassoon open in Rite of Spring, so he doesn't count. Oliver Reed is his favorite actor.

Thank you! I was trying to go for a more organic sound design this time with those MitoSynth presets.
So it’s great to hear them being used in such an organic sounding track like this.
You can do anything you want, really, with MitoSynth. It’s just bursting with sound design potential and possibilities!

That melancholy vibe is always there, somehow. :)

Thanks :) I didn't touch the modwheel (to my shame it never even occurred to me, I must try that next time). I just held the notes. It's one of the best instruments in BeatHawk IMO, just sounds magical.

  • Ooh! Lovely track!
Always love a bit of rain in a song. That kick like a heartbeat, works really well as a central sound. You remember that Gregorian chant stuff Enigma did? Reminds me of that, but cooler, like it’s been done by Tangerine Dream. Evocative.

It's from the Middle Eastern pack in BeatHawk.

Nice one. This is the same as the pack called "Middle East", with only 7 presets listed?

I suppose you are familiar with the lovely duduk from Djivan Gasparyan.

I have one, original from Armenia (my wife was there on business trip and bought me one ;)). It's pretty hard to play on on it, i was surprised it's far away harder than for example flute

@richardyot pretty awesome track, soo smooth and mellow :+1:

Thanks - yes it's a bit hard to avoid being cheesy with those vocal samples, I hope I was on the right side of that :)

Yes it's that pack. I think the Duduk is probably the best thing in it :)

I wasn't familiar with Djivan Gasparyan, beautiful and melancholic.

  • This is really dope man!!

  • Wonderful track @richardyot !
I like this kind of music especially when acoustic instruments are involved, the Duduk sounds really great. That’s why I love BeatHawk, there are some of the best sounding “real” instruments in the iaps...

    Nicely done! 😊

  • @richardyot Might be coincidence, but I notice the hits on my Mitosynth presets thread have just increased by 3. They hadn’t moved for a while. Your track must be helping to promote that soundbank! 😉👍

I'm just going to have to resist the temptation of using them in every track...
