I love this.
Wow.
And then I did a little bit of searching.
$599 in a limited edition of 2500.

Dammit, why?
Super cool, but I don't think I'm at that point in my life where I panic-buy a $600 synthesizer.
Looks interesting. I really like the taurus filter/vca clone i have on my modular for bass(combined with dreadbox vco
<3). When overdriven on itself, the filter doesent have that typical disappearing of low end when you turn on resonance, but still it has that nice moog filter sound. I havent tested this synth obviously, but i heard it has taurus filter, so im assuming it acts the same on this as the original taurus 1, which would make this a effing nice bass synth and they say it can play high notes better than original taurus, so..
It looks like a GrandMother without keys and patch points.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
As @ToMess said...

That would be nice, to have it be a full range synth. Nice form factor. I'd buy it if I 1) had the money 2) wasn't awash in synths and 3) wasn't going to get a GrandMother someday.
ANALOG MESSENGER OF JOY!
Moog Taurus with new makeup?
It looks fantastic, and sounds great.
And is out of my price range, as is everything Moog.
Back to Behringer for me I guess.....
That's one of the absolute worst intro promo vids I've ever seen. That is one bland lead sound, some boring-ass key playing/button-pressing, and the appearance of the Mother-32 gives the impression that it is responsible for the other, cooler sounds when they kick in.
On second thought, I guess they could be marketing towards beginner dabblers with that horrible playing, but if true it's a run of 2500 only they'll just be snatched up by Moog diehards before the official release date.
$599! No keyboard? That's as much as I paid for my SubPhatty. No thanks! I think i would rather get my Freak on: https://www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/microfreak/details
Yeah. No thanks. If I'm going upmarket for a monosynth, it wouldn't be this. I'd go Boomstar, I think. But that won't happen, either![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
I still appreciate all the lower-priced synths coming out in the market - though the lack of presets on so many of them boggles my mind and would automatically remove them from my consideration, were I in the market.
Am sure it's great.
That video certainly doesn't make me want one
What was the multi key he was playing on , more interested in that actually
I'm pulled in by the interface design and the colors (like the Grandmother) but there's too many cheaper options out there for monosynths. I think I'll just have to paint my Minilogue a bunch of colors. Or cover it in stickers. Voila!
New Synth!
I'm going to a public place with a sign:
"Raising money for Sirin to cure my inner child. Please help."
I have no shame and I wouldn't be lying. I have 3 children counting the cats and the parrot as dependents so the inner child is the black cat. The one that runs when I play music. It needs a comforting sound to cohabitate with me. This additional instrument could cure our relationship. Birds like it so maybe the Parrot is the inner child. I have to have one to know for sure which it is... right?
My first synth was a Roland SH-1. It cost me $565 new about 30 years ago. How is this “expensive”?
I suspect it's "expensive" because there's so many other options out there for less money that are either almost as good, or even better (depending on needs/likes) but in a different way. This, to me, seems not quite a cash grab, since it's not like it's a bad product or anything - I bet it sounds and works great. But a limited run etc etc is only going to inflate the prices further... brand cachet and so on. It's a perceived value thing.
Looks like an alright synth but for a while now the marketing just kind of makes me cringe.
At least used the Minitaur will be even cheaper now.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Absolutely!
Yeah, I feel like Moog has earned that ability to charge more of a premium, mostly because their build quality and control is really solid for a 2019 product. And some because their oscillators are distinct and awesome
Watched. Despite what I said earlier, I feel this is overpriced by $100. It's a subtractive synth at its very very most basic, with only pitch and filter modulations. It's a quality piece of thing if you don't have one and want the Moog brand, but my review of the video review is 'meh'. No keyboard means I'd honestly rather use the iOS Moogs and really won't feel like I'm missing a thing (though I freely admit there's a definite 'weight' to a true analog synth that isn't captured by VST).
Well said.
What other synths would you put in its class? Roland SE-02? Behringer Model D?
Many mono synths don't include a keyboard in order to keep the cost down - and because a lot of people have a polysynth with a keyboard already. Or even people want to buy several of the same monosynth and chain them and keyboards get in the way. Etc.
Neither the Roland SE-02 or B-M-D have a keyboard. The "Boog" has been demonstrated to be virtually indistinguishable from an actual Model D - but all Model Ds are different because it's old analog. If the Moog Model D app on iOS, or Diva on a PC, doesn't "do it" for you, and you need Moog for not much money, it's hard to go wrong with the Boog. The SE-02 is clearly Moog-inspired, but was never designed to be a clone. The SE-02 has fewer harmonics and, while it can be smooth, I feel the widest range is where it's actually rough... crisper... than a Moog (or clone). Plus it feels a lot more modern, in that it has great MIDI support, memory banks including some for the user, and a good step (and song) sequencer with 1 p-lock per note. I got the Ext Box made by Studio Electronics and it really completes the SE-02 by adding a Drive knob, an amazing cutoff potentiometer, and an HP filter plus some additional 1/4" jacks, etc.
There are a LOT of great monosynths for that price, or less. Especially if you include used. I looked at an AS-1 because it has one voice of a Prophet (but, again, I can get Repro for that). As far as sound, right now I'd look at a Dreadbox Erberus v3 - that thing sounds fantastic ($600 new). But there's several other options beyond that, as well. It's an AMAZING time to be looking for less-expensive mono synths. Possibly the best time ever to date?
EDIT: just bought a pack of presets from Studio Electronics for the SE-02... and I clearly have some more learning to do! Some of their presets are a smoother (esp bass) than I've been able to achieve regularly, so I'll have to load up the editor and see how everything is set.
And, on topic, I look forward to seeing more - and DIFFERENT - videos of the Sirin.
Funny, but this synth has been on my mind since I saw the video and have been thinking about this discussion.
I think I’d like to buy this synth someday. Here’s why:
I’ve always wanted a Moog. For me, for a long time it has been THEE sound. These discussions about Behringer and their clone sort of set me on edge.
These Moogs are made in the U.S. Now, this is not some isolationist, protectionist reasoning but, Moog started in a town not too awfully far from me. I’m so pleased that they are still able to make very high quality instruments here, in the country of the company’s birth and that is a source of pride. Not guns but butter! Employing folks with decent wages, a decent workplace and environmental controls and workmen’s comp, etc.
Go Moog!
Rereading the above it smacks of old man talk, and I truly don’t mean it that way. Hard to put my sentiments into words.
I thought it was well put and I agree completely.
I like the idea of its form factor, sound, presets, and midi cv capabilities.![:p :p](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/tongue.png)
But, being limited to 2500, myself and ya'll won't have to wait too long for purchasing one to be moot.
@kinkujin : +1
Moog has a commendable devotion to quality. I think a lot of people assume that their prices are some sort of elitist marketing thing. It's simply expensive to make these things when you care about the details.
Grab a Minitaur instead for under $300 used.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I really enjoy running the Moog apps through the EXT input, especially Animoog.
