How to fix audio of a video? Noise, Compressor, Multiband, Limiter

  • Id probably split the audio in to a reasonable number of tracks of similar sound eg. voices, loud sounds and quiet sounds. Then put and EQ and C2 on each channel and balance out the volumes to be consistent on the channel and in relation to the overall mix. If something isnt mixing right put it on its own channel for better control. For the master channel Id try the multiband or C2 again and limiter last. Maybe a subtle run through GrandFinale to master it?

Preferably maintain the timing when chopping so you can mix it back down to stereo and drop it back in the video easily.

  • If you have a mac/pc you could download the 10 day trial version of Izotope RX7. Fully functioning for 10 days. It has all the tools you need to sort your project out...........might be a plan?

    Noooooooo, please don't recommend me a PC. :) :) :)

I "invested" unlimited money into iOS audio Apps.
I realy would like to try this on my iPad.
Just because I should have all Apps required.

And beside trying to create music, handling a video should be within the capabilities.

    ;)

Could be a hassle re-syncing the the audio & film back up anyway.....i just tried it with my copy of RX6 & it only imports the sound & then exports it back out as new sound file. Syncing the film & sound back together would be another process.....doable but potentially a hassle. For some reason i thought it did film & audio together.....i must have been thinking of a different program....i don't work with film much............bound to be all sorts of great video/sound editing software on ios i would imagine, i'm sure someone out there will advise.......good luck with the project........

RX is voodoo magic, can fix things that would have taken days in minutes.
Nothing comes close for this type of stuff and your project sounds like a serious amount of work.

RX7 will fix or reduce many common issues for you after it runs an analysis, I still use v5 but I'm guessing this alone would leave you in a much better place.

  • I think LumaFusion loads AU FX apps to help with the audio cleanup, if resyncing after cleaning the files is an issue. You will have to take a closer look, though. I don’t have much experience using it.

Also, don’t forget to Normalize the files at some point. I would try it before using Brusfri, my thinking is that any residual noise would get boosted if you Normalize after Brusfri.

  • If I had to use iPad I think Id go with Auria Pro as well, I think it can even handle video but that might be another IAP and not necessary - as long as you can split the tracks and drag the parts to a new track and snap to the same time.

To keep things simple Id try running Brusfri on the whole thing first, it can do more than what just EQ can do.

If I was really doing this it would be pretty easy in Ableton on desktop.

@CracklePot @tja can you confirm adding AUv3 to audio in lumafusion?? I found on a differet forum that they had removed it and were considering putting it back in. Wondering if they scrapped this to try selling their subscriptions.

Nope loading AUv3 into Lumafusion isn’t something you can do anymore. They haven’t gone subscription but have a subscription service where you can download and use video and audio content for your own project, kinda like stock stuff. The AUv3 was probably removed because it could add potential performance issues or bugs when working with other apps. They may reintroduce it at some point tho.

Yeah, I haven’t used it in a while. Sorry for the expired suggestion.
If they removed AUv3 support, I would suspect it was causing rendering/mixdown type issues. That was a serious problem with AUv3 before, even with DAWs. Many wouldn’t render/mixdown correctly, or would cause crashing.
That issue seems to have been resolved in DAWs for the most part, thankfully.

    Thanks @Iso
You can run the video through AudioFix several times. It'll boost your volume to its maximum -.3db and then choose different de-noising filters. https://itunes.apple.com/developer/future-moments/id895157892

  • @tja I’m happy to report that everything you wrote needs correction. There’s a subscription version and a pay one time version (Pro), a little something for everyone’s needs.

You can import a video from anywhere. Just find the video and tap “open with” and choose AudioFix. Voila!
