  • I like using Rebirth for its excellent 808 and 809 drum programming capabilities.

  • Do you think buying ReBirth is a waste of money if already have DM-1?

  • I'm curious about this one too. Does anyone have it that can advise?

  • What about Midi sync?Anyone tested it with cubasis or Auria?

  • No , not a waste at all, especially when you bring remixing into the game! There are loads and loads of songs that have been uploaded that you can bring back (or Rebirth) into the app which I frequently do to remix on the fly as drum tracks. http://www.rebirthapp.com/song-archive/index.cfm?Rows=10&Start=120&view=List&action=NewBrowse&CountTotal=3595&Name=&Alias=&GenreID=&ModID=&fuseaction=display_main
Here is a list of 3600 such song/patterns for Rebirthing,
DM-1 remains my favorite but Rebirth is certainly different and very capable of inovation for your work. There is also the PCF effect and the way that everything is all laid out so neatly on one page also..
I do not regret paying full price for either Thor, or Rebirth and love them both.

  • Rhythm Studio also has 303, 808 and 909 emulations + a couple if synths. I don't know how it compares to Rebirth, but it's discounted to 0.89 eur right now. The workflow is similar with banks and patterns, but the iPad UI is just scaled up, even if the app is universal. On the plus side it works on iPhone...

Techno Box 2 has the best 303 engine on iOS without question...and it also had IAA for a few days until the dev realised it didn't...oops !

    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/technobox2/id424841211?mt=8

The engine is by Audiorealism who do the bassline VST.

Great app though just limited at present though the dev says IAA is in the works now he knows what it is !

You can record what every you do with it live and then audiocopy the lot over to wherever you like.

  • I like Rebirth it's way better than Rhythm Studio IMO.
Although Rhythm Studio may actually sound a little better with less effort applied.

Also Rhythm Studio is not going be updated with any sort of Midi sync or automation, I know this because I mailed the the Dev some time ago and he basically said because of the way it was developed it would be really difficult to implement.

Rebirth on the other hand excels in both areas.
I have had Rebirth midi syncing to Loopy HD and it was rock solid,it just receives,no sending.
The automation is awesome I can't think of a groove box/drum machine app that can beat it,every single button select or knob turn, can be automated. The only negative thing for me is the method of inputting notes and even that can be sort of avoided by using its excellent randomise feature.

Can Techno Box receive Midi Clock? There's no mention in the app description.I have Audiorealism Bassline 2 on Mac (i won it in an acid battle :-) ) and it sounds really really good.Damn close to the original one.

  • What are the export options for Rebirth? Can i export loops to Dropbox/Audioshare/etc?

  • @Crabman no midi at all just record your elements in the app in real time and audiocopy 2 the result into Audioshare and then where ever you like......or soundcloud.....

  • Seeing that this is a thread about Rebirth perhaps a video showing just why we think it is a great choice for 303, 808,and 909 pattern/ song creation is in order. If you've not yet heard this in action when compared to others, check this out.

Now take a listen and see just how capable Rebirth is. Notice how neatly that the interface is laid out for live remixing!
If you like this kind of beat, hip hop, techno, dub, electro ect. Do yourself a favor and try it.
Oh ya and then there are the over 3600 songs with thousands more patterns already created waiting for you to download and remix!
So far I find nothing else that compares in this genre.

  • I am wondering how I can use this with BM2 if at all. At first I tried to use DM1 for the drums, but that's too inflexible even if it's a pretty darn good drum machine.
Now I've pretty much settled with bringing samples into BM2 and using the MIDI sequencer there. Major bonus that I can work with synths, fx and everything in one app too.

So one way of using ReBirth is to create some drum samples for BM2, but I already have Rythm studio. Another is to do the drum beat in ReBirth, but I doubt I would do that as it doesn't seem to support velocity, shifiting drum hits and other things like routing the snare to an fx bus to add some processing, the kick to another and so on and so forth.
I like that the drum sounds in the 808 and 909 are tunable, but I think I can achieve similar things with some fx inside BM2 (or am I wrong about that?).

How are people using this with DAWs?

  • Just tried and can't get it to sync with bm2, Cubasis or Auria....anyone else have any luck ?

  • Not only a well done promo Simon, that is a pretty good tutorial as well. I have no problems with it at all in Cubasis but then again I am more into recording Rebirth to Cubasis via the bus and do most of my additional work live with it.
