Totally. My fav CRJ track from that album is 'Let's Get Lost' for that spoken interlude that melts me into a teenager with a celebrity crush again. Her voice is so, so good. I remember scrounging around and finding a Japanese pirate of the album months before it came out at like 2 am. I expected 2-3 really good singles after her previous album and i was blown away song after song start to finish. I put it up there with all of my very favorites of all time with no hesitation.
The Robyn album may not be an immediate hit like 'Emotion'. It's a grower for a couple listens until you realize how much magic there is in the simplicity and lack of histrionics.
I agree with all of these, especially Elton John. But this always kills me.
The crazy thing about this is that the bassline I don't believe is a midi synth bass. It's actually Graham Maeby playing those octaves WITH A PICK and keeping perfect time and dynamics.
This is the first pop song that ever reached out and grabbed me. It still seems perfect even though I’m mixed on Fred. I love Kate and Cindy.
Quelque chose de Tennessee - Johnny Hallyday
I was born 1986 , this damn melody damn song stuck with me ...from the first moment i heard it in on radio as a child. Joe Jackson and his band is underrated. I have a lot of Perfect Songs / Pop Songs. But 'stepping out' is some kind of special , all versions of this song are great from the demo to live versions on Piano.
Edit: i read about the bass players and how the song came together, they really used most of the instruments
you can see on the album cover
Just when I give up hope with this unjust world I see not one, not two, but three great replacements songs in this list (@richardyot and @Mull have great ones too) . HELL YEAH.
Of course this is the greatest Mats song:
Such a great f*%^ you to MTV, too.

But as long as we're laboring under the delusion that guitar pop songs will EVER return, let me add two perfect ones that were basically never heard on the radio.
You could basically post Big Star's entire first two records and watch the weight of pop goodness sink this whole thread. Stunningly good--and the third one is one of the greatest bummer records ever made.
Love the Flamin Groovies too. How about The Only Ones?
You know what would be fun? To recreate some of these classic guitar-driven pop gems as iOS projects--rethink I Will Dare using only the Rozeta suite or something.
It's either "Waterloo Sunset"

or this
Can't really argue with @JeffChasteen either.
A triptych with an odd one out:
Thin Lizzy / Dancing in the Moonlight

Scientologist douchebag or not, Beck, uh...hmmm. Yeah, that's all I got.
THIS, though. How crazy that such a minimalist masterpiece went to No. 2! (Kept from the top spot by Taylor Swift's terrible prefab attempt at being badass, "Look What You Made Me Do.")
Something newer eh? This ->

Miley Cyrus & Mark Ronson / Nothing Breaks Like a Heart
(I think this is a really well made song)
This is also a very well crafted pop song, one that takes a bit of a back seat:

Fleetwood Mac / Dreams
These are all great. Even Beck!
Friday night and the lights are low
There's no point in asking
Looking out for a place to go
You'll get no reply
Where they play the right music
Oh just remember a don't decide
Getting in the swing
I got no reason it's all too much
You come to look for a king
You'll always find us
Anybody could be that guy
Out to lunch
Night is young and the music's high
Oh we're so pretty
With a bit of rock music
Oh so pretty
Everything is fine
We're vacant
You're in the mood for a dance
Oh we're so pretty
And when you get the chance
Oh so pretty
You are the dancing queen
A-vacant
Young and sweet
Don't ask us to attend
Only seventeen
Cause we're not all there
Dancing queen
Oh don't pretend 'cause I don't care
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
I don't believe illusions 'cause too much is real
You can dance
So stop your cheap comment
You can jive
Cause we know what we feel
Having the time of your life
Oh we're so pretty
Ooh, see that girl
Oh so pretty
Watch that scene
A-vacant
Dig in the dancing queen
Oops, how that get in here

Back to the program ...
Started reading and had no idea how I knew this and then — I swear to God — that triplet synth line at the end of the verse just enters my head, and I was like OOH! Abba!
