Looks like another drum machine gonna land on my iPad for the weekend !!!

This one completes the set for me I think.....have been through quite a few in the past, but have settled on these now :)

That means you are missing out on Soft Drummer and Middle East Drummer, which are great too.

I've no doubt that all of the Lumbeat apps are great....the ones I have suit the music I currently make.....Reggae Drummer was the main one I was missing...maybe I'll look at the others at some point in the future ;)

They are great indeed. And they - especially MidEast Drummer - have led me to musical styles and ideas I wouldn‘t have thought of before.

Good to know, I'll be sure to bear this in mind :)

Toast! It's funny because much as I love all of this set Soft Drummer is easily my fave.

As the for THIS one I don't think I've ever been so happy about an app for someone else
    @fattigman :)

Thanks @JohnnyGoodyear I’m so very happy with this app. Now the iBassist app totally makes sense to me. They go together like bread and butter. This app will bring lots of joy to the people 😊😎

  • Very nice on the iPhone XR too.. <3

...but all the Lumbeat apps can output MIDI to drive other drums...

    This look like a purchase!!

...might get this just to rip all the fills and flams to midi. (playing the basic reggae steps i’m ok with, but lacking the muscle skills for those sweet cheese rolls that this app seems to be full of!) practice, practise, practice!!

You’ve got me watching Doug’s vids for Soft Drummer. Don’t have any of the Lumbeat apps, but that looks the most usable for my stuff. I like the Middle Eastern drummer too.

Not cheap, but they’re the most realistic I’ve heard on iOS, so I reckon I’ll have to bite the bullet at some point.

They're NOT cheap, and it irks me still that there's no obvious perfect loop copying, BUT making things into AUM works very well and in end leads me to making things with more variation. Has a bunch of clever things to do within it AND its connection with iBassist can be very productive....I have all of them (of course....sigh), but my faves are Soft and Future.....

I agree they are great but on the expensive side, although I have no regrets with the couple I’ve purchased. I think the only time Lumbeat has had a sale was last Black Friday when they put iBassist on sale. I’ve often wondered how many sales they would get by putting everything up for a bit of a sale (10-15% off?) when a new release comes out? I think they’d be amazed at how many reluctant musicians would jump in and buy a couple others at even a slight cut in price. Just some idle Saturday afternoon rambles, peace out

  • I think of the Lumbeat apps in a “time is money” light to make myself feel better about the cost. B)

I enjoy making my own beats and bass lines, but sometimes ya just don’t wanna slow down enough to do it good.

That’s the attraction. I’m crap at making my own beats - I’ve got drum kits galore on the Mac and iPad, but it takes an age to program them in, and then you need to do fills, and variations...

The Lumbeat demos sound better than anything I can do, and with the fills and jamming options sound pretty natural.

It’s a shame they don’t do a single app, with styles as IAP’s.

I really like the Mid Eastern one, but I’d probably only use it in a couple of tracks. Soft Drummer would get plenty of use though.

I haven’t got GarageBand installed - can that do anything similar? It’s that jam/fill thing I’m after.

Yes, in fact IMO the GB Drummers do it way better than the Lumbeat apps. And it's also easier to structure a song in GB. I use both, as well as creating my own drums more these days. It really depends on the sound you're after. Soft Drummer is super-cool and there is no other app that can do what it does, same goes for Middle East Drummer.

I’m looking at it from the perspective of a lazy man, who’s rubbish at creating drum tracks :)

I like the fills, and natural feel I’ve heard in the vids, rather than the drum sounds themselves - so if GB can do that it’ll save me nearly 40 quid on the two Lumbeats.

Easiest thing is to reinstall GB I guess.

Yeah absolutely, GB is well worth investigating anyway. Soft Drummer and Middle East Drummer though just both have a unique sound, which is what makes them special IMO.

Also one interesting aspect of all the lumbeat apps is that the beats and rhythms are thoroughly researched, and easy to pick apart in the sequencer, so if you're inclined to you can learn a lot from them about how to recreate those rhythms.

Thanks Richard I'll give GB another spin, that could provider the standard drum stuff. Still might plump for Middle East Drummer though at some point, that sounds pretty unique.

Re-downloaded, and checking out all the new packs...pretty good...particularly for free. I've got half a ton of drum kits and whatnot on the laptop/desktop, but just wanted something quick and dirty for iPad use.

Just created a couple of drum tracks, exported them to Audioshare. Yep, think will do the job for the standard electro/rock stuff I was after. Will still keep Middle East Drummer on my list though - there's nothing else that sounds like that, and the rhytms are superb.

Yeah, I’ll cover it with lashings of bangs, pings and squeaks, but good to have a proper beat going underneath.

Anyone know if you record the midi into cubasis?

Yes, or indeed into anything with MIDI in, Gadget, Modstep, Auria etc....

To record direct into Cubasis you will need to
Use MIDI Clock for sync (Funk Drummer uses IAA sync so doesn't need MIDI Clock, but none of the others seem to)
Add Reggae Drummer as an IAA onto an AUDIO track, open Reggae Drummer, set MIDI OUT to Cubasis, select send notes.
Create a MIDI track in Cubasis, set it's input to be Virtual MIDI and channel 10 (default channel in Reggae Drummer)

It is easier is to use Gadget for recording using Link for sync (or any other MIDI recorder with Link), then export MIDI to Cubasis.

Thanks dude :-) got it working but straight away the good old cubasis clock is off wandering ha ha

Is there a manual? I’m trying to work out if there’s an easy way to chain patterns together..

    Awesome app!

Build your song in iBassist....make progressions and save them, then use song mode to string the progressions together. If you do this, when you do 'Create Drums' you will get a structured drum track to go with the structure of the song. :)

Thanks mate, this is my first lumbeat app, I wasn’t planning on buying i bassist as i mostly record myself playing a real bass but I might get it anyway..

Another couple of questions I have is if I buy some of the other lumbeat drum machines is there a way to string various patterns together across apps? Say I’ve got a dub section in the middle of a rock song could I program them to choose patterns across apps and have the option of using just one kit or different kits for different sections?

The other question is say I’ve chosen a pattern which I like except I want it to have 16th feel hats instead of 8th or whatever is it possible to change that without sequencing the hits into the pattern myself?

Had a blast playing guitar along with reggae drummer last night, really good app only criticism I have so far is I can’t find a manual..

Ahh ok, no is the simple answer....not with the apps themselves....you would need to record separate parts from the different drummers and put them together in Cubasis or other DAW.

  • Or..... create songs with sections that have empty parts?

  • You could always create an empty pattern with no fills and zero jam intensity.

  • It’s quite good... nothing you can’t do in BeatMaker 3.. that price tag made me baulk a bit.. that’s seriously expensive for an app..

  • All his drum apps are priced the same. X Drummer, Drum Perfect were about the same price when they came out. Lemur was £35 when it dropped a long time ago. Horses for courses and all that. I think his drum apps actually sound better than a lot of the new AU drum apps. But agree not a casual purchase.

I don't think BM3 has a Jam Intensity slider and the ability to automatically create fills. I also don't think that BM3 comes with a whole bunch of reggae-themed beats, so the comparison doesn't make much sense TBH.

Of course you can create your own beats in BM3, but that's not what this app is about.
