@midiSequencer : I’ve run into a strange issue. I recorded a 4-bar part in Photon that is just two notes in sequence. When I assign it to a pad only the first note and the associated note off seems to get sent out. If I export the take to midi, the midi plays back as expected. I’ve tried with a few s6nth destinations and peeked with a MIDI Monitor. It seems like the second note doesn’t get sent.
Can I send you the midi file or somethings no that would help you identify the cause?
The problem is reproducible. It seems to only happen if there are exactly two notes recorded. Steps.
If you record three notes or one note, all is good.
If you can’t reproduce it, let me know.
@espiegel123
Yup, 2 notes plays 1 note, but 3 notes plays 3 notes.
Both notes are visible in the viewer, but the 2nd note does not play.
@espiegel123 thx will try that out tomorrow
Btw, photon is great for sketching on the fly in AUM which I like to do before committing to working in a DAW
Yup, yup and a nice midi mutator. Now everyone go and buy Quantum if you don't have it.
I’m really wishing for it to someday be able to start or stop with AUM’s transport.
An option for the pads to be locked to the host transport would be great
Have you looked at Photon’s record and play options?

Tx. I overlooked that option.
@espiegel123 & @CracklePot Ok I can reproduce it now - really weird how 2 notes ignores 2nd note but 3 or more is fine!!!
I've found the loop responsible its now fixed for v1.02
Is it possible to get ‘Folders’ in the files menu?
@midiSequencer
Its possible yes, but with that you'd want to create them, name them etc so its a bit of work but yes possible.
Cool, will have to dig deeper..
ive added it to my list todo
These get you part way there but doesn't let you tell Photon what to do when the host transport stops. At least for me, it would be useful to be able (as a global pref) to tell photon to lock to the host transport for playback start and stop.
@midiSequencer : have you considered, creating a companion AU that is essentially a MIDI clip player? There have been a lot of people seeking such an AU. You could probably build it from the pieces you already have. Something like ModStep or LaunchPad with the additionally ability for each pad in the layout to have a 'midi learn' so that it could be triggered by a particular key or program change -- with an option to transpose based on note or CC info.
It would make sense as a separate AU that has no recording ability. It would be nice if it had access to the same file library as Photon.
good idea, Ive added to the list to add a button that will slave pad play/stop to host transport
ive written one of these before, based on ableton live clips. I was going to integrate it with midiSequencer but in the end Quantum seemed better, and I extended the idea of clip follow actions to Quantums loop follow actions.
You are right though, Photon would be a better starting point for this as it works on midi clips already.
I take it the missing part for Modstep & Launchpad is the external triggering?
I think both the external triggering and integration within people's preferred host environment (plus LaunchPad being audio rather than MIDI clips). From what I've been reading, people are putting a lot of ingenuity into repurposing various apps and plugins and using StreamByter scripts to mimic what could be a fairly straightforward clip launcher.
Yes, yes they have
I think @blueveek is working on a clip launcher app to compliment his AU Piano roll app.
He is working on a lot at the moment - feel sorry for the poor chap!
Hiya @midiSequencer. I’m still seeing the occasional missed loop on bar. I hate to mention it without providing steps to reproduce, but I haven’t found any repeatable cause. Just sometimes (maybe 2% of the time?) a pad set to Start on Bar will pause for a measure.
At first I thought it was related to interacting with the screen in other apps, but just now it happened when I wasn’t touching anything. These are recordings made with the number of bars set at recording time. But I’ve also seen it on ones specifically edited to even bar lengths.
I think it may be isolated to just pad 1, but I need to do more testing to say for sure. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I’m at McDonalds or Starbucks if that’s any help.
Sorry, I wish I had a way reproduce it identified. I thought I should let you know though.
thx - will look to see if I can improve the transport bar detection - I'm guessing your loop contained full steps (no rest at end)?
No, the opposite. All the loops have had rests at the end. So far I’ve only been doing drum loops. It is possible that they have had space at the beginning due to poor timing of my playing. That’s something I can experiment around. Thanks.
Just played around with Photon feeding Viking in AUM to test out the new STARK from KLEVGR and sure enough sometimes it misses to play the loop(ie. stops playing just to recover again on the next round).
Most often the 'skips' happen when moving or adding or removing stuff from the AUM effects chain or going into the sound-producing AUv3 to tweak some parameters so I'm not 100% sure if this is a Photon or AUM issue?!
(Will try with ApeMatrix at some point to see if it skips loops there as well).
I’ve had similar issues but need to screen capture.
I was unable to make it fail over the course of an hour in AudioBus. Will try again in AUM.
Hi @midiSequencer,
OK, that didn’t take long. Here’s a very simple loop that has the sync issue regularly in AUM, but works fine in AudioBus or ApeMatrix. It’s just one measure (four beats), with three notes, all just a C#2, which I sent to Ruismaker FM in all cases. No other apps involved. Tested mainly at 100 bpm, though tempo doesn’t seem to matter. I’m using the midi thru output, not individual pad output.
Latest production (not beta) release of all apps. IPad Air 2, iOS 12.1.4.
