I guess this means most of my apps have a 2 year shelf life (unless updated.)
So does this mean nothing is really changing for iOS, just MacOS?
It says they are switching procs on the Macs, to the same procs as iOS devices.
iPad apps will run on MacBooks, etc.
Even if this did happen, I think your apps will still work.
'Marzipan'. Not the greatest of names for this latest processor roadmap announced by Apple.... That sweet, cyanide-like stuff usually found on Christmas cake that many loathe. Sorry, but I can't stop laughing. Shame though about the divorce from Intel though. I like Intel processors. But great that ARM are being chosen. It's been quite a journey since the days of the Acorn/BBC Micro. :)
BTW, I actually love marzipan. But to many it's just like Marmite.
Huh. Love marmite. Never been a fan of marzipan. Different strokes...
Already seeing some grumbling from “desktop” developers about how while this is great for consumers (meaning iOS users) that this signals the death of pro/prosumer applications on Macs.
World ends in 2020.
Swan Song.
Marzipan sounds very android os to my ear.
Well I hope that isn’t going to be all there hardware. Could it spell the end of hackintosh for me in the future? That would be a real bummer.
Doesn’t do much for those of us thinking of buying a new Mac this year. Now what do we do?
I actually just read the article. Just MacBooks for now so should be ok on the hackintosh front.
Where you planning on a Mac Mini? I quite fancied one but read on CDM that there is problems with Audio caused by there T2 chip. I hope they get it sorted because if I am ever to buy a Mac it will be a Mini.
Might be wise to stay away from the latest crop of Macs anyway: http://cdm.link/2019/02/apple-2018-glitch/
Thanks both. Yeah I’ve read about the audio glitch, my current desktop is on its last legs though so need a replacement. Might check out second hand Mini.
My first reaction was ‘2020!? Thats like... uhh, woah, next year...’
it was always going to go down this way...tablets and phones are the ‘now’...laptops and desktops are ‘yesterday’. After meltdown and spectre it was all going to ARM anyways...been saying this the whole rip. Apple even had a commercial that has a little girl saying “what’s a computer” while using a tablet...
its never been if, it’s always been when.
when has tech ever stood still? There is absolutely no way the desktop is the future...there is absolutely no way the laptop is gonna stay around...it’s just not logical at all to believe this.
its always been faster, better, smaller...hence the reason a 5.25” floppy disk turned to a 128g sd micro card
