Wondering why Shoom doesnt get more love here?

Every time I open Shoom hours of my life disappear... I love the thing. Especially when it’s in AUM and I use stuff like EOS or other FSU type stuff...

Considering that so much of the music that folks post is of a more “ambient” or “experimental” nature, it seems that Shoom is under represented.

Im wondering why? It’s not like it makes any sense as an AU so I don’t think that’s it...

Comments

  • I still use it often!

  • I think it not being au has a lot to do with it. I personally love it and love how it utilizes the touch screen aspect of the iPad. It plays nice with other apps and sounds great, but so many are stuck in an au workflow which isn’t a bad thing, but I feel au lacks some of the full screen touch instruments that can be great on iPad.

  • Shoom was my first favorite ios synth right after Xynthesizr. Lack of AU has sort of shortened their shelf life but those two apps were and are amazing.

  • we used it massive in this OST for Bodrog mockumentary.

( *in the drones part )

  • It is a marvelous app that I am still using from time to time. My problem is that I have to commute (because of IAA) should I want to make some variations...and this commuting thing often create unwanted glitches...AUv3 is so much better to do this that I often “forget” to use Shoom as it is today .

I really think that, for live sessions or when you want to record multiple instruments in the same sessions, then you need AU instruments, effects, etc.

If you create your music by adding track after track, then IAA is still a valid solution.

  • Shoom is awesome.

  • Agreed. Was (sadly) thinking about Mark Hollis' dictum of only using one finger rather than two and found this helped tremendously with simplifying my monkeying around in Shoom to overall betterment etc.

  • I recall Yuri saying he wouldn’t work on Xynthesizr anymore but that he would update Shoom.

If that will happen, who knows

I miss midi note in (and MPE, of course) to play with the Linnstrument.

  • Yes, it is fabulous but I feel it is hampered by it's lack of midi in. However, I need to remind myself that sometimes I should just appreciate things for the how they are, instead of always wishing they were something else. Bad habit of mine.

  • I don't mind the lack of midi note in (how would you map midi to all their weird tunings/scales that are possible?). And his midi control implementation for both Shoom as well as Xynthesizer are pretty much the best out there.

What I would LOVE to see are an option to arpeggiate multiple touch points, as well as animate/record the touchpoints.

Those two things would make it basically perfect.

I'm jonsing hard-core for Audio Damage's upcoming tape-looper to use with Shoom...

I would love to use Kais KB-1 to trigger Shoom inside AUM. A pity. Shoom would be the ultimate drone machine. I a, really blown away by shoom even without external plugins

  • Give it some love.... it’s on sale right now ;)

  • I know this is heresy but I've never found Shoom to be that musical. Maybe I'm using it wrong.

Love Shoom like all the great XY pad iOS synths like Bebot, MorphWiz, TC-11, ThumbJam, and the dearly departed Synth-X. But i always want to call it ‘Shroom (like mushroom) 😝

  • Another vote. It’s fantastic.

  • Love me some Shoom :)

get an eBand going in the background, and then just pick up and play

  • Hey Shoom lovers...

are you doing much with all those automatable parameters?

I haven’t yet, but there are so many to try. I actually just recently took notice of them. I had been pretty much stuck trying to make the 3 synth voices work well together.

  • Still love ❤️ me some sroooms... er uh, I mean Shoom ;)

Itd be cool if there were also an abbreviated iPhone version too.

  • Only for “hand-automation” via midi controller... But honestly, you can assign “enough” parameters to the y location, and those are per freaking note (as is the LFO in trigger mode) that any more “automation “ gets even more messy... One of the things I love about it is the interface to control so much so logically. Unlike TC11 which is awesome, but far too cryptic for me.
