Nice bass chunker. good mix, great vocal performance. jobs a good un !
Late to the party with my entry this month ... An electro ditty with silly video ...watch out for me busting some moves at 2.08
Love the lazy melody, and the fact that none of th filters ever really open up all the way esp on the TB303 sounding line. All the timbres are nicely separated and there’s plenty of space. Nice.
Critique:
is the sloppy sounding open hi hat. (Personally it bothers me)
The rising modulation could be used earlier for a nice breakdown
It would also be nice thematically to have some of the louder and more experimental bits introduced earlier and interspersed rhythmically throughout the piece as accents as opposed to random sounding “mistakes”
Would the vocal be served to have a less pristine sound to it - perhaps filter or eq
It’s a little too karaoke over an already made song
I do love the vocal performance though!
I do lose the bass in the mix. Good song.
It’s a short track but what would happen if you intro’d the melodic bits earlier. I like the halting arrhythmic parts but the melody lines really glue it together. If you’ve haven’t listen to a Stevie Wonder song (can’t remember the name - Higher Ground?) Each of the parts played as solo tracks sound incomplete with note gaps in each of their lines, but together they complete each other.
Hope I explained that ok.
Fun song. The guitars need to be way more forward. Take some of the modulation off or make it more subtle it just sounds like its cutting out and not in a good way. The back up vocals are the best.
Well for a first submission it's pretty incredibly accomplished. It really reminds me of some of the submissions from Crouchie in the past: your voices are quite similar and the electronic style is also a little similar. I think we coined the term "Artronica" for this genre.
Anyway this is a very polished production, the vocal is excellent, the vocal melodies are really strong and the instrumentation and mix are also really good. The bass growls beautifully and the music has a lovely dark edge that appeals to my sensibilities. My only crit is that I would be tempted to make it shorter, 5 minutes is a bit too long in my book. But otherwise it's just a great tune that I really enjoyed listening to. Well done.
The video is excellent Love the way the dancers are sped up to keep in time with the music.
The track is nice and dark and brooding, with some well designed sounds and a great bass line. It's too long though, it would definitely be stronger with a couple of minutes shaved off. Maybe also the hats could do with being a few DB quieter. But the music itself is really cool, the bass line that pulses all the way through really drives the track and then the lead sounds play off it and offer lots of variation and contrast.
Many thanks for taking the time to have a good listen and for the kind feedback It's the first track I've finished on Ableton Live, so the process of editing vocal takes, automating the mix and so on took a bit of time to learn compared to Logic which I know much better.
Yes I was wondering if the song was too long... Only last week I added a repeat of the chorus section at the end - and I was not sure if that was pushing it too far... perhaps I should have left it as it was. Maybe I'll re-try a shorter version.
Really well crafted mix and sounds! And I totally love the video - it made me laugh out loud
If you were going to work on this any more I wonder if you could bring in some of your other musical ideas earlier on in the track? The different drum groove that comes in for a few bars at around 5.30 might bring some variety if it came earlier?
Thganks Richard.. you are bang on regarding the length .
Thanks Rick. ive edited and put it to bed . as Richard quite rightly pointed out it was too long. i dont think there was enough variation to carry it over the 5 minute mark so i cut the "change of direction" which i wasnt overly keen on anyway and made one or two other snips. thanks for taking the time to check it out.
new version is here if you want to have a listen..
Sound-scapey & rhythmic
(one day I will have a reg chord progression and ABAB song structure)
@richardyot and more than one drum pattern
@audiblevideo I learn a lot from the advice from the people in this group, thank you for the feedback.
Nicely atmospheric - the beginning is downright creepy. Cool choice of sounds.
I have listened to the feedback so I decided to make a new mix. I very thankful for all advices, I learn a lot from this group. In this mix I lowered the voice and increased the bass and finally I added a guitar solo.
Attention getting 2 min mark! Super.
