Korg Gadget: no community? No easy project file/preset sharing?
I’ve got Gadget for some time now. Cool app, high quality sounds. One of the things I like the most is the chord mode of the synths as I’m not a keyboard player.
I haven’t used it that much yet as I like the Caustic workflow a bit more. One other thing I like about Caustic is that a Caustic project is saved as 1 file. That file contains everything: arrangement, presets, samples etc. it’s easy to share a project file, just send the .caustic file.
Because of this there is a big community: you can download 100’s of user presets for free on the Caustic website. Same goes for project files.. Search for ‘Caustic file’ on Youtube or the Caustic website and you’ll find lots of great project files.. You can learn a lot from other users or remix their songs…
This isn’t the case for Gadget, there seems no community at all. At least I can’t find any user presets, user samplekits, Gadget projects.. I think the reason for this is that a Gadget project isn’t 1 file. It’s a hassle to share a Gadget project or share a preset. A Bilbao samplekit preset doesn’t contain the samples but uses a reference to the samples in the Gadget folder. You can’t tell wich preset uses wich samples anymore when you look into that folder…
The only thing you can export in an easy way is audio, Ableton Live set or just midi..
I think it would be great if there was some kind of ‘Collect All and Save’ (Ableton Live) or ‘Package’ (InDesign) function. Just a simple way to export a Gadget project as 1 zip file containing everything you need…

Yep, one of those "really basic" bread and butter features they could've delivered, instead of 728626894 more gadgets 😉
Now now......LOL
Well they do have Gadget Cloud for sharing finished (or unfinished I guess) tracks...and they did have Allihoopa (until it died) so community is obviously part of what they want to do.....
It isn't easy to share projects in many of the apps we use, we often have to resort to exporting and sharing stems instead of projects.
It should be easier to share project now, as you can see the project files in iCloud Drive.
I haven’t tried it, but would assume sharing these should be easier (unless you use User Samples, as they are not part of the project files - audio in Zurich etc. ARE in the project files AFAIK)

That's where the inconsistency between the different gadgets shows up, it looks like different gadgets have been developed by different teams without a detailed specification so now we have a mixed bag. Some gadgets support folders, others don't. Some store samples in the project folder, others don't. Some allow for preset sharing between standalone and its gadgetized version, others don't. Some have all parameters available for automation, others don't.
And so on.
Yeah you're right..
Well, I'm really amazed that there is no community sharing projects, presets, third party preset packs etc...
