If the thing is half as good as NFM then it’s a must buy. But as I said, I can’t afford any non MPE synth anymore.
The Public Beta of this thing rocked - still haven't gotten to play with it as much as I'd like.
ios 12 only....
I wonder why?
I'm presuming this is inspired by old school Casio approaches to Phase Distortion?
$20 seems kinda steep, though - anyone really dug in with this? I certainly don't NEED any more synths...
Is this emulating a cz? Im trying to fund some audio from this app
I usually like to support the few things I beta test, even if I don't love the app. But I'd be lying if I said I thought this was worth the price tag relative to other synths in the iOS market.
Thanks for this honest feedback!
It's certainly a joy to program and do sound design with. The UI is absolutely straight forward and easy to navigate. That patch bay is super useful! Also, it sounds great and fairly unusual (that may be, because I do not have much experience with phase distortion synths).

His synths are a little more expensive, but the quality is great and the UI is straightforward. Really like NFM, and so far, this one seems similarly excellent..
I purchased NFM but it doesn't click with me as much as KQ Dixie as a pure DX-style FM synth or in the same way that Phasemaker does as a DX+ FM synth. It ended up being a superfluous FM synth to my particular needs. The only other FM synth that cut through those two as something I turn to on a regular basis is Mersenne. It's my own fault for purchasing another FM synth when I already had three that I really liked.
With this one, I think I'll pass as I already have a decent CZ emulation as a desktop plugin and in all honesty, even Casio CZ synths only impressed me back in the day for their multi-stage envelopes (I owned a CZ1000). As a synthesis technique born out of Casio wanting to do DX-style FM without breaking Yamaha's intellectual property (phase modulation - the technique that digital synths like the DX7 actually used rather than true audio-rate frequency modulation), it never had a whole lot more going for it, other than those multi-stage envelopes (which were a rarity in a low-cost digital synth in the mid-eighties). Funnily enough, I use a set of Phase Distortion modules in VCV that are direct emulations of Casio, but the attraction there is the patches that can be created in tandem with other modules that span all manner of synthesis techniques.
With modern processing power and creative thinking, someone could probably take Phase Distortion somewhere completely new, but much like with NFM, NPD appears to be workmanlike rather than innovative. I'll change my mind if the audio demos (when they appear) suggest my gut instinct is wrong. But these days it takes a lot for an instrument to cut through on iOS.
Apologies if that sound's a little harsh.
