Recording KB-1 audio into BM3.

I love using kb-1 can anyone help me find a way to use Moog Model 15 and Poison202 with it and be able to record into BeatMaker3? I can’t find a working workflow.

You’re probably best off recording audio in AUM, then copying those clips up to Ableton using AudioShare.

It gets more complicated if you want to stream audio directly into Ableton. It can be done. But for starters, you’d need to provide details such as what computer OS you’re running Ableton on, whether you have an audio interface for iOS, etc.

disregard. I should learn to read 😜

  • Bump// sorry, I meant to say BeatMaker3 not Ableton.

Are you trying to record the audio, or the midi notes?

BM3 can be enabled to record AUv3 midi from plugins like KB-1, using this suite of midi tools: http://audioveek.com

In particular, here's a video demonstrating how to do it with BM3: http://audioveek.com/route/

Of course, if you're just looking to record audio, there's other alternatives which don't require any other plugins :)

  • So AudioVeek workaround for MIDI.

What about for recording into audio?

Create an audio track. Then set the audio input for that track to the pad on which you have the app you want to record. Arm the audio track and press record. There are other ways to do this, but that’s the most straightforward.

  • Yes, but KB-1 is appearing for me as a plugin to use, I was asking for the workflow around that.

I assume you mean that when you press the Midi-FX button, KB-1 comes up as a plugin that you can use? Is this correct?

Have you gotten as far as being able to play other synths in BM3 using KB-1, or do you need help with that part as well? My brief answer above assumes that you are able to play the synths using KB-1 and just wanted to capture the audio, but maybe that isn’t the case. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on a detailed answer to the wrong question.

Would that also work in NS2?

No, NS2 doesn’t support enough AUv3 MIDI features for that to happen at the moment. Many things are fixed in the beta, but I’m not sure that’s enough for using Route for recording.

    Thanks - I'll be patient then :)

  • OK, @nlong5 I’ll take a stab at answering your question even though I’m not quite clear what you’re asking.

To record audio from apps such as Moog Model 15 using KB-1 in BM3:

    1. Load the plugin you want to record into a pad.
    2. With that pad selected, touch the Midi-FX button at the bottom-left side of the screen. Add the KB-1 app as a plugin there. You should now be able to play Model 15 using KB-1.
    3. Go to the mixer and press the “+ Add Track” button, then “Create New Audio Track”.
    4. Long press the track name at the top of the newly added track. From the popup, select Audio Input > Internal, then find the bank or pad you want to record and select it.
    5. Long press the track name again, and turn Armed Recording ON. You’re now ready to record.

I hope that helps. If not, then please as as specific questions as you can and I’ll try to help. You can also get probably better help over at the Intua.net forum, and from the “manual” (kind of a misnomer IMO, but it does have information for most tasks) and the tutorial videos there.

Good luck. Just remember, KB-1 is a midi controller. It doesn’t make any sounds on its own, so for audio, you’re not recording it, you’re recording whatever you’re playing with it.

@wim that’s exactly it! My [noob] issue was that I didn’t know about it being a MIDI FX audio unit instead of just a regular plug-in. Everything I was already trying 😂 Thank you very much sorry for the frustration.

Great! I’m glad it helped. Don’t hesitate to ask if you hit other issues.
