Has anyone used another app to control Gestrument Pro via MIDI in?

If so, how did you set it up? I have a 1st gen 12.9 in iPad Pro running iOS 12.0 and I can’t get a peep out of it. It may be significant that I’ve not found a background mode switch yet.

  • I might be able to help! How do you have everything set up?

  • I've been sending midi program changes to it and controlling playheads fine in AUM and Audiobus or ApeMatrix so seems to be working for me.

  • I’m also interested in something like this. I am trying to play sounds from the AUM keyboard. I’ve got AUM as midi output in Gestrument Pro. Seems a bit backwards from what I want.

Can you play a KB and have the Gestrument stuff play, like a sound module? I haven’t figured that out, yet.

That would be backward. The AUM port is for sending to AUM.

I've not tried that to be honest. I'm using it purely as a controller for other apps rather than as a sound module, so far anyway.

Cool. It does make a great controller.
    Thanks for the feedback.
    :)

  • @CracklePot I started a similar discussion a little while back on this and got this answer from @aaronpc but have had no luck yet

I had iFretless Bass sending MIDI to all outputs on all channels. Gestrument Pro was receiving MIDI in from iFretless Bass, then Network Session 1. Neither worked.

    Ok. That was helpful.
So far, I got it to play pulses or patterns when I press a key. And I can move the cursor around with a couple of knobs mapped to X and Y movement.

Kind of strange, but if you import a midi file as a scale, I think it may work for playing back a sequence. I will get back to this later, outta time right now.

  • @CracklePot glad you got something working. Is there a way you can share how you did it, when you get a chance? Possible screen captures? I’m using a microkey air and got nothing.

  • Ok, just to reiterate, I’m trying to use Gestrument Pro as a sound module by sending MIDI data from another app. Anyone got that working?

The consensus is that CCs and PCs work great but I don't see that anyone has seen it react note for note with a controller.

Yeah, I think it only reacts to a single note, which acts more like a on/off switch. I believe the notes the instrument plays is determined by the scale it is currently set to.

It seems you would need a way to map Midi notes 0-127 to CC values 0-127 on a specific CC number. Then you would drive the Y-value of the cursor with the CC, and use a Chromatic scale for that instrument.

Yep, thought of this mapping idea too but it seems like a long way to go just to get it to act like a sound module.

  • Ok. I just assumed it would do something it apparently doesn’t. Thanks for your help.
