One iPad to a second iPad - so that first appears as the ‘hardware input’ in AUM?

What kind of connection cable would I need? Is it lightning to lightning - if such a thing exists?

Comments

  • It's possible but not simple to do and expensive. You'll two audio interfaces with two lightning to usb3 connectors, one of each for each iPad. Both interfaces should support ADAT, so you can send output from one iPad to another over ADAT.

Another one option is likely to use Studiomux with a laptop with Ableton as intermediary to pass audio between the two iPads.

  • Or an iConnectaudio 4 interface? You can connect 2 iPads at once to those

  • Or headphone out to an audio interface on a second iPad.

  • That's how I do it.

You could even connect 2 more iPads via their headphone outs to that device and run a quartett if you don't need external analog sources.
But an iConnectAudio2+ also supports 2 iPads on it's host ports (but imho the 4+ has the better price/feature relation)
At least it's way more affordable than 2 Adat Interfaces and has a routing software for all it's physical and virtual channels.

  • Thanks folks- I will initially go for the budget option of the headphone out with an audio interface to see how my plans with it work out. Cheers
