Lets discuss: Beatmaker 3, would it be better as an AUV3?

Does anyone else think that Beatmaker3 would be better as a plug in sampler for other hosts?
the same keys, scales, modes, editing, chopping....just no sequencing or song mode of its own?

Beatmaker3 sampler in nanostudio2? Stagelight? GarageBand? Auria?
I personally believe this would be a better fit.
What does everyone else think?

  • Yes I would love that.

  • That would be amazing.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • That’s the only thing i want. Just the sampler as an au. I’ll pay again for it. GarageBand would almost be complete with it I think unless GarageBand upgrades there sampler and library folders.

  • What they said.

    Yes + 1,100,000

I’m drooling 🤤 thinking about the pads, note repeat, etc

Is something like this, or a new app possible @mathieugarcia ?

  • How would it work in a host like Cubasis or NS2 though given that a BM3 pad can also contain notes? it seems like you would have to select either a ‘pads’ or ‘instrument’ setting.

  • This would be awesome. I’d pay again, for sure.

  • Would be cool but the workflow inside of BM3 is far superior to any other iOS DAW in my personal opinion

There is a lot I love about BM3 but a lot I love about NS2. Have you NS2ed much?

  • I’m not sure if it’s even something that would ever happen; it’s just an answer that doesnt exist very well in ios, or mac os to be honest...closest thing is akai mpc when you buy mpc2.0 software or the mpcx/live and that’s not on ios only on conventional computers osx/windows. Then there’s maschine with a hardware purchase on windows/osx...then maybe geist...and most of those aren’t as good as bm3’s sampler. I think it would rock on windows as a plug, osx as a plug, & ios as a plug! I just cant see anything bad in my mind pulling up beatmaker3 sampler in garageband, auria pro, or nanostudio...sounds sick to me!

  • There would be 0 ios competitors at the moment

Not touching NS2 until it gets audio support and support for the latest iPad Pro screen sizes lol

It couldn’t have apps on the pads because AU’s can’t host other apps. It would have to be the sampler only. Which would be awesome! B)

As awesome as it would be, lets be realistic. How long did it take to develop BM3? How long has it been between updates? I love BM3 and have great admiration for the Intua team. But lets face it, they aren’t the speediest or most nimble developers around. They have their work cut out for them just trying to keep the dogs at bay.

Maybe someone else will be inspired by the idea though and pick up the torch.

    I hope so.

  • Sometimes we pass destiny’s path while trailblazing! Intua might go back and fulfill destiny! It does happen sometimes! :) aint life grand?!

I respect @mathieugarcia highly, so whatever he choses im down!

  • Mucho love to @Matt_Fletcher_2000 while im at it!!!!

  • I am using Beathawk as a sampler AU but it’s a love/hate relationship. I still need to record to BM3, do the edits, import back into BH, if I created multiple samples, then I need to zip them to avoid lengthy imports etc... It would be awesome if BH (AU) could record from any AB3 audio input and has at least basic audio editation options. Also time-stretching in BH is the shittiest one and not usable for every case.
Obviously, BM3 has a lot of work behind it and still not matched by any sampler on the market right now, maybe expect Audiolayer, but that’s not oriented on beats and loops. If it would be an AU, they could easily charge the same money for it as for the standalone BM3, and still sell maybe even more copies...

  • Not touching a single INTUA's product again.....

  • I would probably use the Diet BM3 AU , but the whole package is my favorite thing on iOS still. The crashes have gotten infrequent for me, I’m actually surprised when it crashes on me these days (usually when changing an AU effect)

I wasn’t referring to hosting apps on pads.

Even with using the ‘sampler only’ in BM3 you set pad triggers and then can set notes for these triggers, you could not do this when hosted in another daw right? This is like notes nested inside notes and you could not do this when hosted inside of a standard AU host that can only send notes.

Yah I would have a hard time considering NS2 for any daw workflow awards because without audio tracks it ain’t really a daw to me. But workflow wise it will be pretty amazing based on what is there now.

  • Diet Beatmaker 3...lol

  • @wim's right, though. This came up on FB once before and 5pinlink and I pointed out the same thing. This is a MAJOR ask. Probably totally unrealistic.

There is a significant request backlog already for BM3 and re-architecting a clone of the app as an AUv3 sampler, in parallel with the main BM3 DAW development, then maintaining linked branches for updates, supporting both apps, etc.

Well, I'm imagining a bit of a resource crunch there...

Intua might be best keeping their focus and playing the DAW long game. Being an AU host is core to its awesomeness as a sampler. It probably makes more sense for someone else to take up the AUv3 MPC-style sampler challenge and fill the gap. Virsyn did something similar with Audiolayer and I think Samplist has the same goal.

    Exciting times!

  • Samplist! I forgot that one. If AU gets built in on that one perhaps so! Thanks for the reminder.
