Garageband Master Fader - Greyed out

My Garageband masterbus is running a little hot in the red with all the tracks filling up. I try to turn down the masterfader, but it´s transparrent, and can not be moved ??

How do you adjust the volume of the summed output of your tracks, or is there a way to grab all of the faders and slide them down in one go, so their individual volume is preserved ??

Morten

Don´t you just love greyed out stuff in software! Why is it there if it does not do anything, what box did I not tick or what or how or when????. If it was an adventure game it would be a fine challenge but otherwise - yuk !!!

  • It’s greyed when you’re connected to a usb interface. You have to adjust the overall level there.

If it wasn’t greyed out, then you’d be able to move the slider, and it would do nothing. that would be even more confusing.

  • From what I can remember, that control is just for changing the device volume and is probably greyed out because you have an audio interface plugged in?

GarageBand doesn't have an actual master fader (no, I'm not kidding!)

  • There is a hack to get a kind of master fader:
Hit the FX button at the top to get that DJ fx thing and record some automation with it. Delete the automation track. In that track you now have an EQ and you can use the gain setting on it to change the master volume.

  • Ah Ok! No master bus/fader  I´ll try the hack - next time I will not start with the faders in unity

    Thanks a lot !!

    Very slick. I love it.
