Ableton Live 10 Users - BM3, Gadget 2, or Cubasis?
What works best for you? For collaboration? For on the go?

I’ve had good success with going from Gadget to Ableton Live. It’s really good that you can use all the instrument plug-ins Gadgets if you have a Gadget on the Mac as well.
I use all 3. I like a few Gadgets so I iAA them in BM3 sometimes. It’s better on CPU to just sample the sounds you like into BM3 tho. Then I host Bm3 in Cubasis like the old MpC/Protools workflow so that I can use my Roli Blocks and leverage Cubasis MpE capability.
Live 9 user but I think this still applies
I like gadget because it exports Ableton live project files in midi and audio formats.
I see Gadget as closest equivalent because as mentioned you can export to Ableton projects directly. But limited because no AU, Taipei is an improvement and so I'll likely be using it more again.
Beatmaker 3 is basically Maschine so I use it like Maschine on desktop, as a sidekick to Ableton. Either for sending midi over WiFi/Bluetooth synced with Ableton Link or for exporting stems. Plus BM3 can host midi AU fx.
I wish hadn't bought Cubasis, the workflow is super convoluted and too much like a desktop DAW. Too many steps to do the simplest things.
I'm loving NanoStudio2 instead for linear arrangements. I was recently using Gadget Taipei on one iPad for sequencing and NanoStudio2 in another for hosting AU instruments. Super fun. The interface and experience of NS2 is really well designed for use on an iPad. I wish it could export projects to Ableton directly.
Most tried and true way is to use Audiobus & AUM to generate stems or jam using Ableton Link, at least for me.
If It was a case of purchase any of those i would but reslice and/or audiolayer and use GarageBand instead. :-)
Wait, Gadget 2 can't host audio units, but the app itself can be used as an audio unit like in BM3? Am I understanding that correctly?
Why so?
@nlong5 Gadget can host only Korg's instruments but not any other 3rd party synths or AUs.
It can be used in BM3 or another host via Interapp Audio but you are not able to route the instruments out to individual audio tracks, though you can route midi to each track. Gadget is pretty limited in this way.
All my Ableton bits start life in Gadget or BlocsWave these days, project export is a huge timesaver.
I have Gadget and BM3. I don’t own Cubasis.
Every app has pros and cons and I generally find that GarageBand has a better feature set for me than BM3 or gadget apart from one aspect; the sampler. Hence reslice and/or audiolayer.
The main remaining flaw with garageband is it doesn’t have a one click ‘export all tracks’ feature.
It does have a Live type scenes mode (called love loops) which can work in tandem with the main linear arrange window. BM3 has scenes but you can’t record them into the linear arrangement and BM3 is a struggle to use due to the reliability and confusing Haphazard UI.
BM3 has some superb features and its sampler is second to none on iOS. It’s great for slicing up beats really quickly.
Gadget isn’t a ‘proper’ dAW. It’s gteat for the, well, Gadgets but it doesn’t have proper audio tracks (Zurich ain’t no match) and the sequencer Is poor imho.
GarageBand is free and has a ton of content. I’d try exhausting/ruling out that first.
It doesn’t seem to get any love around here but has become a pretty powerful little app.
BM3 has the best combination of features if you can get your head around the UI and don’t have expect to be able to do anything with the scenes other than record a stereo output from your ‘jam’. But you can manually drag the patterns into the linear arrange screen fairly easily.
Like BlueGreenSpural, I also like and use blocswave. I tend to start in NS2 or GarageBand and export loops from there to play with in BW and Launchpad. I like the simplicity of Bw for jamming out arrangement on my phone when I have 5 minutes to spare.
You can get from Bw to Live with a dedicated export to live command.
Convoluted, but everything in iOS tends to be :-)
