DM1 Custom User Kits on iOS iphone?

Hey Folks,

tl;dr = Is it possible to upload or use custom samples/"user kits" on the iOS smartphone version of DM1?

I've been using the DM1 to make kind of 80s UK indie songs. Basically "real" sounding drum samples, but a little off and obviously programmed. Love it for this.

I find the iOS version to be the most useful for me because I can work on stuff anywhere, like on the bus, or a break from work, etc.

The pre-programmed samples on the RX and Linn are pretty good, but not complete. Wanting to customize samples, I found that the Mac Desktop OS Mojave version allows users to define "user kits." So I can download, or make, whatever samples I want and create a kit from them and the pre-programmed ones. Works great on my computer.

BUT I can't figure out how to import those custom user kits to the iOS version of DM1. I don't see a feature for exporting a user kit. I did try to export a song using a custom kit from my desktop DM1 to my iphone dm1, but it didn't take the custom drum samples with it.

If I want custom samples, is the only choice to use the desktop version of DM1?

  • Only on that iPad version

  • I only have the iPad version, but if I make a new kit, I can select sounds from any other kit, or I can import a sound from a bunch of places, like AudioShare, Dropbox, iTunes, etc.

I do not see any way to import a whole kit though. It seems easy enough to rebuild a kit if you just import the samples to your iPhone.

On iPad, you hit the Kit name in the top control bar. When the menu comes up, you get a ‘create kits’ button near the bottom of the menu. Tap to open another menu where you can import you samples to the correct drum pad.

If you want to use some samples from other DM1 kits, you have to that from the mixer page. When you tap on the sample names at the top of the tracks, a pop-up menu lets you pick the corresponding drum from any kit in DM1. So kicks replace kicks, snares replace snares, etc.

Hopefully, this helped. Maybe none of this applies to the iPhone version, though. If not, my apologies.
