  • After a real headache trying to figure out, and failed, how to build a multi-sampled drumkit with velocity layers and round robin per velocity in Drambo, DPD, iSpark or BM3... I've decided to pull the trigger while Audiolayer was on sale.
I, so far, think that it's been a good idea... nevertheless, I keep encountering a strange problem :

    • If I launch Audiolayer in standalone = everything works as intended
    • If I close the app and launch it as AU in AUM = everything works as intended too
    • But... if I close my AUM session and launch Audiolayer in standalone again, I get this strange message : "iCloud Account changed - You're logged in another account since last usage of Audiolayer. Your data may be missing now."

... In fact, I never change my iCloud Account in any way... so what's going on here 🤷‍♂️🤔.

Yep, that's a very old bug that has been in AL for a while. I have never perceived any issues, however. That is, I have never found any missing data. That said, I've started using AudioLayer locally since the iCloud sync thing, while very cool and potentially helpful, was more trouble than it was worth.

I sure hope Harry gets around to finishing the AU param exposure in AUM, especially the ability to mute layers.

You're right, despite the message, everything seems to work properly.
Building my drumkits has never been so fast & easy. I should have bought Audiolayer a long time ago !

  • Is there any way to use the Autosample feature directly within Cubasis 3 on iPad. I’d like to sample some sounds from the different native drumkits to build up a customised kit? I’ve tried using AUM but that method doesn’t seem to work as Cubasis is not an instrument as such.

You can use it wherever AudioLayer can be loaded as an effect AUv3.

  • Exactly what I have been trying to learn to do. Are you planning to use AudioLayer to playback the drumkit samples or what app where you thinking of?

  • I’ll bet this can be set up in AUM using Cubasis by a AUM guru. And then the answer could be load into the AUM PatchStorage platform. I have another AUM project in my queue but maybe someone will get to it. A “AUM Projects I’d like to have” type thread like the Request a Moziac script thread would be a good idea.

Maybe I’ll start one and use this as the first request. @Wim loves a good problem and typically provides a solution when the problem looks interesting.

I made an AUM rig with Cubasis are the target for a multi-track MIDI stream as output from a @_Ki *divisi* script. The Starting MIDI stream was the chord output of Scaler 2. I could hit the start in AUM and scaler2 to Mozaic to Cubasis all went off an I could output a “Mixdown” MIDI file that imports into Staffpad with the chords assigned by note to up to 8 tracks. That would be a good Project to share, I guess. What I’m not sure is if the Mozaic script will come with the AUM Project file or if the user will need to go to patchstorage and download and save it for the “rig” to work.

@McD The script is part of the AUv3 state of the Mozaic plugin - so it will be saved together with the scripts current settings in the AUM session.

Downloading a patchstorage AUM session will include all Mozaic and Streambyter scripts - BUT all the plugins used (instruments, midi plugs, fx) have to be present on the target system loading that session.

Thanks. I tried triggering drums in Cusbasis 3 with AudioLayer installed in AUM as an mFX app. Once Cubasis 3 is started outside AUM it can be loaded into an App slot and using the MIDI Routing config’ed AudioLayer to send MIDI to Cubasis 3.

When I started the auto-sample in AudioLayer I could hear one note by using a side bus to a Mix Bus A channel but Cubasis stopped after this first note. So, it appears to an unstable situation.

Why not do the autosampling directly in Cubasis?

I didn’t try that. And I probably won’t. MIDI routing in Cubasis just isn’t as flexible as AUM so I’ll let a Cubasis user tackle testing and recommending how to do that.

I was wanting to use the samples towards building a drumkit in the excellent Digistix app.

Thanks to all who have helpfully responded so far 👍

  • Hi,
I just started building complex drum instruments in audiolayer... I built them in sfz and import them.
Then in audiolayer I need e.g. mutegroups for hihat and the hihat sounds are spread over the black keys.
So selecting zones to create layers is an immense work, because i have to select every group of velocitylayers for that notes.
It would be a perfect workflow to be able to select all zones for a key via pressing the keyboard note... and adding other zones by holding down multiple keys at once.
    Or is there another trick?

@rs2000 offered this advice about importing your own samples and using the auto-mapping feature

Let me repeat in short how I go about it:

First, rename the files to match AudioLayer's auto-mapping file naming scheme:

    name_NoteName_velocity.wav

    Examples:
    AcGuitar_C#3_ppp.wav
    AcGuitar_B3_fff.wav

Note that the following velocity ranges are available, in this order from low to high:
    ppp
    pp
    p
    mf
    f
    ff
    fff

When all files have their names right, I copy them all to AudioLayer's iTunes shared files folder into a sub folder given an appropriate name for the new instrument (I'm using iFunbox but iTunes works too) over USB.

You can import all these files without the need for an EXS file, AL will place the samples horizontally by evaluating the note names and vertically by evaluating the velocity letters.
I've done it with >500 files, no problem.
By selecting groups of samples, you can fine-tune the exact velocity ranges later.

Do you mind telling me if “fff” stands for lowest or highest. I don’t understand the arrangement of this lows and highs list, if it’s “fff (low)” to “ppp (high)” or the other way around

I knew my grade 3 music theory would be of some help someday.
The letters at the end refer to the velocity (for MIDI) with lowest velocity as ppp and highest (127) as fff.
These letters come from Italian, and wikipedia is your friend here:

  • Hello.
For two days, I've been trying to find an answer to this question:
During the creation of my new instrument, I saved intermediate copies each time I added new layers and samples. The copies had names like "Trumpet-01", "Trumpet-02", and so on.
Now I want to share my instrument.
I choose the "Share" button and confirm that I want to create a zip file with the instrument and a folder with samples. A zip file is created inside which all my samples are located in different folders with the names of intermediate versions of the instrument. For example, one set of samples is in the "Trumpet-01" folder, another in the "Trumpet-03" folder, and the remaining samples are in the "Trumpet-06" folder.
I would like all the samples of my instrument to be saved in one folder named "TrumpetSamples". How can I do this?

    Thank you for your help.

  • @VirSyn Just a quick question...

Has there been any requests of being able to use individual effect send levels on a per zone, or per layer basis?
If no, they is that something you've looked into?

This would give quite a bit of freedom when creating for example drum-kits or layered sounds where the send level for each sound/layer could be individually controlled and modulated (think velocity to fx send amount as one example).

Another thing would then be to use the effects in either a parallel or a serial configuration and be able to use the same effect-type more than once?

These would be quite powerful tools and worthy of another IAP!

    Cheers!
