Could this be the problem with Virsyn Ghosting AudioLayer?
I was just reading this article and thinking.... Could we have somehow demotivated @VirSyn ? What can we do to make him feel like a SuperHero? What can we do to make all developers feel like SuperHeroes?

Put yourself into his place for a minute... We've been BEGGING for a full blown sampler with direct from disk streaming--a real sampler. @VirSyn creates the best thing we've ever had for sampling, and immediately we bury him with requests and criticism on how it needs this or that, rather than accepting it for what it is. He was probably expecting to be treated like a superhero (like the article I mentioned above). Instead, our enthusiasm could have driven him away.
I don’t know about what went on with that dev/app, but I have seen it many times with other devs/apps. For some reason, those others keep going. Some even seem to enjoy the challenge of fulfilling our feature requests. I mean, even Reason Compact is getting a major update, and that app got crapped on from the moment it dropped. People are extremely disrepectful to the Propellerhead rep that is on this Forum, too.
From my experience, VirSyn is held in very high regard around here. I know that AudioLayer has some problems, but it still works, right? Also, it seems a little early to bring up ghosting. This stuff takes time create and update. Give the dev a chance to work their magic.
I use AudioLayer daily and love it!
That said, anyone who makes software who doesn't know and accept the dynamic with customers is not going make software very long.
It is written: "The update shall cometh, when it is ready." Have faith.
@Virsyn has 21 IOS Apps and a couple got the update to AUv3 recently so work
is progressing.
I tried making more AudioLayer instruments using "SynthJacker" and using loop back
cabled connections for MIDI and Audio on my PreSonus AudioBus ($99). This allows me to treat any MIDI controlled IOS App as (virtual) external hardware in the SynthJacker set up.
The sample gain seems a bit low but using this I can sample IAA Apps with an auto-sampler tool.
NOTE: The SynthJacker AU hosting feature is disappointing at this point but I think the developer will keep working on it. It doesn't chop the samples correctly and you have to manually remove 20-100ms of silence before the note attack and the accuracy of the Velocity MIDI value doesn't seem consistent to me. So, I stopped making AU App samples using that feature and will wait for an update. Still, that Loopback capability is excellent for
getting instruments made. SynthJacker also is getting attention for making 3 level sample sets for the NS2's Obsidian. If you have any external Synths it's great to make sampled clones for AudioLayer or NS2.
Not to minimize the value of warm fuzzy feelings, but there’s a difference between a software development business and a charitable open-source developer community. If a developer is trying to put food on the table, they have to focus on work that is most likely to do that. What else motivates an open source developer other than feeling good about what they do?
If you really think about it, at iOS prices, how much new revenue is likely to be generated by some of the features and fixes the small subset of existing (i.e. non-revenue generating) customers around here represent? Developing new apps which do generate revenue, or those more marketable features, or fixing those bugs that are really hurting App Store reviews, or in many cases, the day job that actually does bring in a paycheck, are bound to take priority if one doing this as more than just a hobby.
On the other hand, if I was a developer I’d probably keep a low profile around here unless I was looking for ideas. It reminds me of talking to my mother in law. She talks so much that no one dares say anything for fear of triggering another 45 minute monologue.
For what it’s worth.. Virsyn delivered on one of the most needed apps on iOS. I’m using Audiolayer every day.
It’s a great achievement.
Damn straight!
I just opened up AudioLayer the other day a layered some single cycle waveforms. It worked great! Pretty deep plugin with a lot going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took a while to deliver whatever the next phase is. Great purchase IMO. Not feeling the presences of any ghosts.
