Lightning Extension cable?

I’ve bought two cables from amazon so far and both have been dud’s i.e. they only transfer power (even though thier description does not state it’s power only)

I just want a short cable so the cck is not dangling from the ipad...

anyone found one that works please?

    CableJive Dock Extender 6ft/180cm. Also available as a 2ft/60cm version.
    It's not cheap but it works 100%.

    PS: The Focusrite iTrack Dock might be an interesting alternative in your case.
    AFAIK it's not produced anymore but some dealers should still have a few left.
    You can connect a class compliant USB MIDI interface to its USB host port.
