Major stuttering issues in cubasis

Hi guys

Looking for any sort of advice or input here and stuff like this may have been covered before so apologies if so.

I (foolishly by the looks of it) updated to iOS. 7 over Xmas and now am just getting back into recording some stuff but am having major problems with stuttering in cubasis. Trying to record some guitar with jam up pro via audiobus but it's freaking out every time. Stuttering as I'm trying to record. Even if I just persevere, when I play it back it's even distorted the timing of the piece I've just recorded.

Don't think it's limited to just jam up either as the same thing happened using sound prism too.

Have followed all the advice on trying to solve this from cubasis (not using too many insert effects, closed all other apps, even gone into airplane mode etc) but nothing's working. And it's driving me mad.

Can anyone help?

I'm assuming there's no way of getting back to iOS 6?

In desperation.

Rhys

  • How many tracks do you have? Frozen or otherwise?

    1. Trying to add the 12th. And I've used way more than that before without issue.

None of them are frozen as (correct me if I'm wrong here) I haven't created any of them using cubasis midi instruments etc.

    Cheers

  • Sorry that's supposed to say 11.

  • Set buffer to 512 in Audiobus before starting any other apps. Make sure you don't run any apps you're not using at the time. Use a memory cleaner if you have one to free up memory if you get stuttering. Stay in Airplane mode.

Over on the Steinberg forum there are a lot of people (including me) running into this. It seems it's more a problem with the latest update to Cubasis because many are on iOS 6 and have the latest hardware as well. It's a problem with having a bunch of tracks in a project. For whatever reason Cubasis croaks. Frozen tracks, bounced tracks - these should eliminate any CPU overhead but they don't.

The workaround I found for this is to mixdown all of your tracks. Create a new project, add that mixdown and record new tracks until you start having issues once more. It's all a bunch of work, anyway. The magic number of tracks you can get into a project without having issues is about 4. BUT - mixdown works well with unlimited tracks so a guy can go through all of this, mixdown new tracks and add them back into their original project.

Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon. They need to. Cubasis is almost unusable with this issue.

  • I did wonder if it had anything to do with that last update.

Thanks for the advice though wayni. It sounds like a bit of a pain but I can definitely work with the mix down workaround idea.

You're right though, they've got to get this sorted because it's useless at the moment. Fingers crossed.

    Thanks again.

  • I have this issue as well. I solved it by going back to Garageband...

  • Check out this thread:

    http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/3136/cubasis-iaa-audioglitch-#Item_33

This is an ongoing and known ios 7 issue (reported on both the AB and Cubasis forum).

Hopefully Steinberg will issue a fix soon. Maybe make soon noise at the Cubasis forum? :-)

  • Just having a browse through the cubasis forum and they've replied to a few threads today saying they are investigating the issue. So hopefully they're on the case and will sort it soon.

  • @Vineboy, that's good news. I hadn't check the forum in a week or so.

I forgot to mention that there's also a camp at the Cubasis forum that feels that the Cubasis update from 1.6 to 1.7 is the primary blame for the current audio issues...

  • I'm in that camp. I didn't have nearly the issues until 1.7 came out and I've had iOS 7 since gold master.

  • It's just a bit frustrating that their $50 app is now capable of the track load of half that of garageband. Just a bit disappointing. There's a ton of stuff on the forum but they haven't fixed yet. Really annoying.
