what got midi working for me on windows 10 was to remove all vestiges of itunes, then use the alternate driver installation via copytrans as described on the studiomux page. i did that and switched from vendor asio driver to asio4all and midi became entirely reliable. i have not looked at latency and jitter because i don’t want to know, i am just enjoying it for now.

    audio is still completely unreliable.

i want to live in the universe where ipads are rock solid class compliant usb audio/midi devices.

    Hi,
After latest iTune installation my studiomux server in WIndows 10 PC stopped working. The Studiomux icon is disappearing from the tray panel.

When I checked midimux.log it is showing this error -
    2020-09-26 00:45:59 [15768] INFO LoadUsbLibraries
2020-09-26 00:45:59 [15768] ERROR Could not locate 'Apple Application Support' folder path in registry: ABORTING

Can you please guide me step-by-step how to get rid of all vestiges of itunes, then use the alternate driver installation ? I could not find this info. I already have asio4all.

  • I'd suggest uninstalling StudioMux ,reboot and reinstall.
Hopefully StudioMux will search the correct location ot at least the devs will add that feature to avoid breaking stuff on future iTunes update
In the meantime there is an interesting post
    https://community.zerodebug.com/t/studiomux-in-windows-10-v19-not-working/1155/9

Also the Windows Store version of iTunes doesn't work with StudioMux for any win10 users using it....

  • iPhone + iOS14 crashing upon loading any of my AU instruments/effects :(. Everything else working very seldomly, if I can get studiomux to open at all (have to leave it running or reboot the phone every hour or so).

Looks like iOS14 might be the final nail in studiomux’s coffin...at least on iPhone.

  • Studiomux never , ever, worked reliably for me. Very poor support from the devs from day 1.
One of the first things they did was remove support for Windows users. Not a good move when the windows server software has problems.

Surely one of today’s more reliable software engineering devs could take on the task of writing something does this job properly.
A solution to this problem was required years ago.

That might be a touch over dramatic. iOS 14 has temporarily broken lots of different apps. In the summer of this year the devs reported they were actively working on a new version. I guess it's not that easy to write something that does this job properly.

I finally got studiomux working successfully the other day, I was using it with logic or studio one, can’t remember which (i think it was studio one). Obviously on mac. I was able to use a reverb on an aux track as well as use studiomux as an insert. Pretty cool , now I have to explore what I have so I can set up an effects rack that I just hook into when I mix.

  • Can we still download it? I can't seem to find it online any more.

  • @mrufino1 Can you do me a favor and tell me what your OS versions are for iPad and Mac? I’m on 14.1* iPad and 10.15.7 Catalina on Mac and cannot get studiomux to load on iPad... :(. Despite not being to re-install studiomux for Catalina I can open my old install and seems to work just fine. I believe my problem is on the iPad side and want to troubleshoot.

Otherwise @all is there an alternative to pass audio to my DAW with another app?

    Cheers

Which way? You can pass audio from iOS to the Mac using IDAM, but not the other way round. If you need to go from the Mac to iOS then you pretty much need an audio interface that can route between the two.

I’m on 14.0.1 on iPad and Mojave on Mac, whatever the latest Mojave update is. I had problems with it in the past but was happy it worked now. I was using it with logic though, in the past I was trying with harrison mixbus and reaper. I’ll try to do a video in the next few days if I can, I have a bunch of sessions this week but I’ll see if I can find a few minutes to do it.

  • Thanks guys for the replies. I did want to get it running for the multi-channel functionality + send/receive audio. Maybe I’ll try using the AU in logic instead of in ableton. Was hoping not to get another interface but might end up going that way.

    Thanks again

  • I tried to get studiomux working again today, after upgrading to Catalina a few weeks ago, and it no longer works. Catalina plus ios14 really has messed it up. I looked on their forum and now tried the TestFlight beta of studiomux plus the beta version of the server, which only installs vst3 for now. I tested with studio one, and studiomux server now at least sees the iPad, but things still aren’t working, and apparently auv3 and studiomux on ios14 do not work.

I was hoping to use MicSwap pro to make virtual room Mics on some drum recordings but it is not to be. I had time, so I spent 2 hours on this today, but now I’m putting it away until things are ready to go or there is a beta that gets things working.

  • One other thing of note with regards to

The beta isn't even close to cooked yet.

Right, when it is cooked l’ll try it again. I’m not a good beta tester; the few times I tried to beta test for companies it didn’t go very well and I don’t enjoy finding bugs. Some people are great at it, but I’ll just wait until it’s ready.

  • Hi. I've just bought this app and am a bit bewildered to be honest.

    I've got a iPad Pro 12 inch 2nd Gen and a MacBook Air M1.

Anyone still using this app? Does it work okay for them?

Works for me on MacBook Air and iPad 6 .. except for Ableton link in the studiomux app…so I host things that need link in AUM.

  • Seems to work a lot better using a cable rather than WIFI. I'll stick to cable from now on.

I only use a cable. WiFi is inherently problematic for audio unless very large buffers are used because WiFi is inherently prone to lost and delayed packets)

  • I got it to work in logic finally, but work is a relative term. Logic became really unstable, and there is still a delay when used on an aux send. Great idea, but too unstable to use on anything that is not for my own enjoyment.

I have been using it in Live and Reaper. It sounds like the results are different in Logic.

Hi everyone. Are people still using this app now? I’m mainly looking for a way to monitor Ableton (from 2017 iMac with Mojave) thru my iPhone 13+ and iPad internal speakers mainly but also wouldn’t mind sending and receiving to some of my AuV3 fx from Ableton as well.

Is there a better solution? I tried a search and will continue but if anyone has any tips it would be much appreciated.

Other than audio out from the Mac to an audio interface on the iPhone/iPad, StudioMux is about the best answer. Round-trip latency is too much for me to deal with to use with iOS FX though.

There's SonoBus if you want to try it over WiFi. Usually there's lots of latency. ymmv.

Neither are too bad, but you wouldn't catch me using them for monitoring through iOS device speakers. Too much setup hassle and potential stability annoyances. I'd sooner get some cheap speakers and just plug 'em in to the iMac.

Thanks 🙏 @wim I have so many little speakers and do check my mixes thru them but I have a new obsession for some reason to monitor what it sound like thru the actual internal speakers of the devices without bouncing a copy and airdropping to the phone. I’ll grab Studiomux and give it a shot.
