All session band apps are on offer..

I so wish that sessionband would work up a midi format. they take up a lot of space as they are. That being said I bought 3 and have kept two of them, one just for the drum section in sessionband rock 1. The other that I kept is sessionband piano which sounds great and well to be frank, I play no where as well as these sound.
But the same files in midi would take up so little space and you could change sounds at will. Now that would be very great indeed.
It has been mentioned that they might do midi sets in the future I believe, I am crossing my fingers as I could definitely go for some of that.
Horses for courses.
The Sessionband apps are high quality audio takes recorded by professional session musicians. And although the apps take up space, they are incredible value for money at normal price let alone $1/£0.69.
I'd rather somebody else do the midi equivalent.
It's kinda like bemoaning that the plumber won't paint the house.
If you say so lol. Which reminds me of your complaint. No one would make you use the midi I am fairly sure. I like the audio and do use it as I already stated above and that they are done well. Some of us would like a midi option.
Some of us would like midi and some of us would like our house painted by whom ever we choose to do it is all. That is a horse of a different color how ever. May the good lord forbid anyone from hoping for any improvements right?
Hoping you didn't misunderstand me. I wasn't intending to sound antagonistic.
I completely agree about a midi version. I would love that too.
It would just be better as a separate app, and produced by a talented midi professional rather than talented session musicians.
There again everybody loves a grey horse, right?
Also countless people have been looking for a quality midi arranger keyboard option which this would be . All I said was it would be a great improvement. I look forward to it's possible development, if not by sessionband perhaps someone else might look into this. This is a forum for the free exchange of ideas and that is all that I am putting forth is an idea. It has been mentioned in other places I should add.
A MIDI-fied version of the SessionBand apps would take up a heck of a lot less space, but it would also not sound anywhere near as good. So that's the main tradeoff. It would allow them to add a lot more chord types very easily though.
Sessionband's selling point IS audio.
@Tritonman2 I wasn't knocking the idea at all. Here are a couple of apps that you may be interested in...
Yamaha Mobile Music Sequencer (this app has different names in other countries, link for UK)

Chordbot
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/chordbot/id394754767?mt=8
iReal Pro (used to be iRealB)
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/ireal-pro-musicbook-playalong/id298206806?mt=8
All three are excellent and do something similar with midi.
Thanks spooky, I do have chordbot and it sounds great, i don't think it will take midi on the fly though. I am not sure. I have iReal pro but I find that to be almost useless because of horrible sound. I remember being all excited by Ireal but ultimately not to fond of that. I have considered tha Yamaha app as well but it seemed a bit hoaky and I have heard a lot of various complaints on it. I still like to use chordbot from time to time and it has a decent sound library especially after it'slast update. I know doug just did a review of the mobile music sequencer and will watch it again when I get some time.
I don't know if they're 'midi professionals'....but they have a band!

Just a little joke....I don't know this app.
.
The built in sounds for iRealB aren't so great. Reminds me of Band in a Box about 5 years ago, which is still pretty incredible to have on a phone/iphone at this point. Would like to have better sound definitely, and am hoping that developer will find a way to improve sound soon w/out sacrificing a pretty efficient, bug-free app.
Have you tried the midi export feature in iRealB Pro? I like to export the midi file from the app into BM2 or Cubasis, and then use SampleTank or other apps generate the sounds. A little labor intensive, but brings a whole new life to the playalong tracks, I find.
To export midi from iRealB Pro:
Tap Share button on top right, AUDIO, EXPORT AS MIDI).
No I have not tried that and yes it is way to labor intensive mostly because I have so many other options that are less labor intensive available to me. What I really hope gets developed at some point and I am fairly sure it will given time is software that will actually make your midi controller and arranger when used with the Ipad and simple to use. Play the chords and the backing follows my lead. I also hope that multiple options for changing patterns and adding fills breaks ect . will be available as they are on a decent arranger in hardware form. I do not think we are very far off from this now and I and many others are looking forward to such an app. The chordbot software is as close as I have seen so far and perhaps in time it will mature into such a beast but if not I am sure at some point it will be available. I am just not sure of when and how good. I agree with your assessment of how far we have come and I can not wait to see just how far we go.
An arranger type app would require an enormous amount of memory to follow chords in realtime. So that may be a few ipad updates away. Midiband plays thru your arranger keyboard without using much ipad memory,
hi @mgmg4871, good to see a posting from you. Does this mean you're back from your posting break? :-)
@Tritonman2, def would like to have the type of app you described at beck and call!
In and out for now, until I complete a project. Another week hopefully.
It has been done on less memory than the ipad already has on a PC> Several versions are out already for that and have been for quite some time now. And there is this also.
onyx arranger for pc for several years also.
One Man band for pc is another arranger available for many years now on PC also.\
We are not that far off at all now.
Seriously, One Man Band would run on windows 98 Not near as much memory as you might think.
The time approaches soon.
oops, double post.
Great audio samples at 69p a pop. Whack straight into your DAW for a pro sound. MIDI is nice but I'd rather have these audio samples.
Ok, cool @mgmg4871. Will be great to have you back at the forum full time!
Re the midi vs. audio, I always prefer when an app provides both. What would be very useful would be if session band, if the least, had attached midi files of each part that could be exported out to other apps. A little crude, but would be very useful, still.
Ya , make no mistake I do love the drums in all the sessionband stuff. I am only hoping for an eventual midi option for future works.
I'm looking at iReal Pro and saw your comments here....could you elaborate a little as to your view on it at this point in history? I know they have updated relatively recently, but your comment as to sounds isn't very promising. The Midi export was what caught my attention, but I have the fear that this is one of those apps that seems/sounds so good on paper, but might not actually be so in reality. Welcome any insight you can share...
Johnnygoddyeah, Ireal Pro IMO is very much dedicated to musicians who play jazz and need to rehearse standards. It holds by far the richest collection of songs you can get from inside an IOS app. If you play an instrument and want to improve your skills as an improviser, learn standards chords, modify them on the fly, enrich harmonies, isolate and rehearse a loop inside a specific Song, this is your go-to app. It is very precise, intuitive and the In-app purchases allow you to expand songs in different styles, embellishing harmonies in a subtile way. You can export all the midi files created in order to make them play inside your favorite DAW. The sound of the app isn't that bad though Session Band tracks sound better to me. It can be deep if you consider using it as a start for a material you Will mater use with another app. It is less educative than Mapping Tonal Harmony but it's very much adapted to someone who practices a musical instrument and want to expand his techniques or dig deeper creating something new out of a song he thought he knew. It is also Audiobus compatible and to me this is a Must-have App on IOS.
Just my 2 centavos....
@Johnba A very good, fair and informational review. Thank you, I appreciate it and have a better feel for what the app offers.
The realbook collections you download from their forums is huge. It will make you able to read any standard you want and follow the chord progressions. You may read it as piano chords or guitar chords. It Will also offer alternate chords to be seen. It's a smart design, quick on the go and super intuitive. This is so much better than all the programs I used on Pc like BandinaBox. I think IrealPro was one of the reasons I bought an Ipad 5years ago.
The dev often updates and knows his app is unique and very practical for everyday musicians.
Sold.
I use it on every gig for just that reason. I can hack my way through standards on wedding gigs now...and believe me, hacking is the right word...
+1 for ireal pro !
Looks like Sessionband apps are going on sale again. Just saw the original Sessionband app for 99cents.
