    I got married in my yard. We decided "instead of giving a bunch of money to some place, let's use it to spruce up our digs". Had food and chairs delivered and got friends to mind random bits for us.

    I was surprised when asked me. He went down on his knees and asked me if I would marry him and the first thing I said was are you kidding. We ordered the rings 2 weeks ago and when he picked me up at my apartment today he had a little surprise prepared at his house.     I just want to share one wedding I went to last year, what they did, that I found so beautiful. Not to suggest this specific idea, just a line of thinking about what a ceremony should be that was so compelling to me.

    The wedding I went to, the pair, one has a father that is white, mother is syrian. The other half african, half filipina. Starting there, they asked family and friends to read poems in their first/second languages. Love poems in 16 languages in total.

    I thought it was so beautiful, like touching, but also the coolest poetry slam Id been to ha.

    But I wish Id thought of it. Or something like it. What unique things could family and friends bring? For us, it probably more would have been, if Id thought about it, an array of friends performing a song each.

    Not that we didnt have a lovely wedding, but it was more a standard Hindu tradition thing. And that is our background, lots of love for it in general, but I regret now not personalizing it more.
