Marking/noting forum threads

As we build the wiki, I'm thinking that it will often be worthwhile to add wiki articles that point to individual forum posts or threads to help people find some of the hidden gold -- even if we don't have time to write up a nice new article.

I am not sure if people realize that each forum post has a permalink that you can copy. If you weren't aware of this, the time/date that appears at the start of each post is a link to that individual post.

It is also a good idea when quoting from forum posts to link to the post.

  • Good suggestions.

Probably most people know this already, but for anyone that doesn’t: On iOS, to copy a link, long-press it then let go. A pop up with the Copy option will appear.

Or, a little less fiddly: Go to the first page of the thread and then tap the share icon in Safari. The fist option there is 'COPY'.

Good suggestion for when you are linking to the thread itself. Sometimes linking to a particular post (especially in megathreads) is preferable.

  • The forum is already a history book of sorts and being able to even store a list of threads relevant to a topic can be a good starting point. As more people start to contribute to the wiki and familiarize themselves with markdown tags and how to use them in forum posts, people will be able organize information more as they go along which should make the conversion of the information to relevant wiki pages smoother and more meaningful.

  • Ah, missed that was for copying a specific post's URL.

That's also possible with the share icon fwiw. Tap the post's time and vanilla will redirect you to that URL. Then, hit share and copy.
