iphone auv3 piano rompler / nexus alternative

Are there any AUV3 plugs that run on iphone that have good piano sounds?

I’m hoping to find something like nexus on a desktop machine with a decent assortment of sounds or even something like thumbjam just running as an AUV3

Thank you so much!

  • The two options that come to my mind are Ravenscroft 275 and Colossus Piano, both AU specialized piano apps. Other option could be BeatHawk with the Acoustic Grand IAP.

  • Bs-16i and the piano sound font of your choice.

  • I'm curious what other app(s) will be used that require the AUv3 feature.
(I also need to Google Nexus to get more context).

Google done: Nexus2 from ReFx. A VST ROM-pler product (starting at $249) with dozens of Expansion Packs available for sale with average price of $50 each. Well reviewed by Music Producers for sound quality.

I'm using AudioLayer and an auto-sampler app called SynthJacker and making new instruments that will run in the AUv3 slot for my DAW's. SynthJacker can sample external hardware MIDI synths (or any IOS MIDI App using a loopback cabled audio interface) and
any AUv3 App. It creates Wave, AIFF or CAF files in one or more folders using Names that are
importable by NS2 and AudioLayer. The SFZ file created needs an update to provide velocity details.

The best overall ROM-pler on IOS (in my opinion) is not an AUv3 app but it's so good I have to plug it: Korg Module has a great array of expansions. It's the closest to having a Korg Karma in your pocket for mobility. Works great with Bluetooth MIDI controllers.

The AUv3 Piano apps all seem to push the limits of RAM in IOS DAW's and crash a lot. Colossus takes 10-20 seconds to load it's biggest pianos and they sound great but don't leave an resources for the DAW to do anything else. I can't even load it in Cubasis to record one track. RC275 is a lot easier to get work out of. I find BS-16i to be somewhat fragile but I suspect NOT using the huge SF2 SoundFont collections would make it better but that might mean editing with PolyPhone to get something smaller. Many SF2's just assume you want a large collection of sounds like the General MIDI sound fonts of the past era.

bs-16i app plus the free Yamaha C5 and Chateau Grand piano download (listed 6th on my site) should cover most of what you need.
