(H)Ives / Not For Your Ears (maybe)

Spurred on by @McD @Daveypoo and @rs2000 I offer homage to Charles Ives, a Sunday composer who had to hire vaudeville orchestras after hours to play his junk. Now it lives forever, proving once again, don’t give up your day job... he made a fortune in insurance). Two Ravenscroft pianos tuned a minor third apart. SpaceCraft and other tomfoolery. Wait for the bees!

I dig it - reminds me of FZ's Girl in the Magnesium Dress at times. I especially like the tomfoolery, however it seems only mildly relat d to the main focus. I'd like to see more interplay between the two, or maybe the tomfoolery builds throughout... I don't know, but make it a bit more integral to the overall piece. On the other hand, it's your tune, I liked it and what the hell do I know anyway?!?! 🤪

I did like the conversation between the pianos very much, though. This is music I can appreciate and respect, however it's not something I "hear" when I pick up an "instrument" which makes it all the more mystifying.

  • Monumental. Easily supporting a dramatic movie scene as well.
Wondering what the pink QR code on the bee's back says.

  • That ain't no Burl Ives but sounds great. Lots of lovely bits but especially love the (intentionally, for sure) lazy timing at 5:43 and the twinkly bits at ~9:10.

  • I like it when you take requests. SpaceCraft makes a great contrast to the pianos and is surprisingly evocative especially around the 8 minute mark I feel.

  • Thank you @Daveypoo if you want it it will come, but maybe it is too out in left field for you.
Much appreciated @Moderndaycompiler, thank you for continuing to listen.
Thanks @rs2000 ... what is a QR code? I loved the image... very politically relevant.
@syrupcore thank you so much for your close listening. Much appreciated.
@McD, SC is amazingly useful both as a melody instrument and a midi track interpreter. Don't know if I will ever leave it for Tardigrain. Differences, in your opinion?

  • It might be time to move to Istanbul !

  • Great stuff, I like the inclusion of the Spacecraft stuff..

and scan this with your iPhone/iPad camera:

It's basically a 2-dimensional barcode that even fits on the back of a bee :D

And here's a direct link to your song on soundcloud to print in a paper magazine, a beermat or on toilet paper:
