Great album but pales next to Head on the Door.
Wow. 30 years? I was front row center for the Kiss Me tour. That means that was over 30 years ago.
The Wish tour is still one of the best shows I've ever been to, I'm curious to see how they are holding up.
Nice, the original Disintegration tour was the first time I had a chance to see them live.
My favourite Cure era has always been Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography though.
One of my fav bands✊🏾🤘🏾
I pushed hard against this band and this genre of music when it was popular. I think I am more open to it in my old age.
I really loved Seventeen Seconds as a teenager, the stuff after that never did much for me. I always felt they used too much FX.
The Cure helped me so much through my late teens and early twenties. Allowed me to be confident and comfortable with my quirks and different view of the world.
Pornography is one of my favorite albums of theirs. Disintegration for me was the fulfillment of the vision of what he had in mind with Pornography, Faith and Seventeen Seconds.
Guess it’s time to revisit these great works.. 🙏🏼💕
Thanks for sharing the link @Max23 - I'm really looking forward to watching it properly. I had a quick preview and it's cool that they are playing b-sides and unfinished demos from the album as well.. Crazy to have "new" songs that are 30 years old!!
Seeing as it is Friday today, Dean Wareham (and Britta Philips) covering Friday I'm Love:
And Tanya Donelly (from Throwing Muses and Belly) doing this one:
I'll see your cover and raise you another:
I'd not heard that one before - very nice!
Likewise. I'm a big Galaxie 500 / Luna fan but hadn't heard Dean's version before.
Snap On Fire is probably my favourite album of all time. It came out the same year as Disintegration, 30 years ago (my first year at uni). I played that record every day for at least 3 years, I was completely obsessed with it.
It's a little known classic. Listened not too long ago and I think it holds up very well with age.
It's actually better known now than it was then. At the time everyone I knew was listening to the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, or if not then they were into the early (pre-Nevermind) grunge scene (Mudhoney, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr). Galaxie 500 didn't sound like anyone else, and didn't easily fit into a scene, so hardly anyone had heard of them. Nowadays I think the album is considered a classic. I think it holds up extremely well, I still listen to it a lot.
Back on topic, this is a great read for any Cure fans:

I can vouch for this. Saw them about 5 years ago and thought it might be a bit of a nostalgia good time (and that might be about it). There was definitely some of that but that's because they must have played for close to three hours. The thing that really struck me though is that in between days all the old "hits", they still went on long and wonderful space-the-fuck-out jams. And yep, he's still got pipes. Thumbs up; would recommend.
