What’s the biggest hardest kick we got?

I mean you guys have much better monitors than me, I’m sure, and I need something that will make an impact (whatever app, I have most of them)

Edit: to clarify, I don’t have access to a proper sound system atm, but I need to get the bass clean at first try for a medium venue (100 people), and I could really use your help finding a proper kick (808 like but I don’t want samples) that won’t sound like shit

With proper dynamics/compression you can make even a wet fart sound like a hard kick. Just take any kick you like the sound of and work it with a compressor. That would be my advice.

What Bram said is exactly right, but if you don’t want to have to work too hard for it, Synth Drum by Design by Paul is the best for this imo.

2600 kicks are my favourite.
Volca Kick is very good.
808 kick needs distortion to come to life.
909 always translates well...

I read that Stroke Machine has fat kicks. I tend to use samples though plus sometimes synthesized layers from Ruismakers/MV08/SeekBeats and a few others.

Would love to see Stroke Machine becoming AU, very nice (underrated?) drumsynth on iOS.

Nanostudio is good for this as you can control the curve of the pitch and amp envelopes. Makes a huge difference. A good kick doesn’t need a lot of compression. It’s all in the envelope

I find that if I double a 909 kick with an acoustic kick, it really snaps and punches hard (you’ll need to tweak relative volumes to get an effect/sound you like).

If you have a PC, get something like D16 Punchbox or Kick 2 and make one, then import the sample to the iOS app of your choice.

It’s not hard to make a kick sound great in isolation. The hard part is making it sound big in a mix.

Sidechaining is cheating ;-)

I don't know about your favorite host, but I'll try to explain the idea.
The key is saturation and layering. As mentioned earlier by other comments.

Setup three channels, first one having an 808, then the second one let say a 909 and finally an "acoustic kick".
Put FAC Bandit on each channel, keep the "init" presets.

Then on then 808 channel, solo the LOW band. On the 909 one, solo the MID and finally solo the HIGH on the last one.
Play with the crossovers, keep in mind that it s better to keep same crossover settings across the three instances to minimise overlapping... but not a golden rule you can try everything in music.

Finally, add the saturation (yes in FAC Bandit too). Gentle or agressive, everywhere or only on the mid...

This works with anything. Hope it helps,

I've never tried to make a 808/909 etc, there's a gazillion apps and vsts that do this... Isn't that enough? Certainly one of these apps can do the job...
But I've always just found a kick I like from a sample or synth then added a low bass to it from a synth or again a sample..
Eq it and move on, I've personally never been a fan of using super bass in my rhythms but more for a sound scape...
Elastic drums seems to be able to kick out some punch tho

I often get a really heavy kick from combining a kick from Ruismaker OG, (modified 808?), Deep 80s kick, some additional clicky from Ruismaker FM, and the mid range from a wet fart sound.

No actually, I'll use all kinds of stuff for the mid range. Often I'll do that with Tremor (desktop) to make the decay, pitch, noise dynamic. Or an acoustic kick from BFD. I like the low to stay fairly consistent, just from a mix sense. And the simple amplitude dynamic of the click from Ruismaker FM is good.

I usually eq pocket them, but I don't have a strict frequency ranges there. Maybe I should, but basically do that by ear.

I like this thread - makes me want to start a “what’s the deepest bassiest bass on iOS” thread.

I wonder if the wet fart would suffice for that as well!

It would be epic. I can't comment on the gross part as my wife constantly reminds me that I am apparently impervious to these distinctions.
