  • ...and Geo Synth and all the Wizdom apps!

  • Yeah I'm surprised they aren't, Jordan is the reason I purchased a lot of my apps! Seems he abandoned us and went on to selling the Surface pro or something. Not sure how I feel about that!

Geo is being worked on at the moment.

  • The thing with JR is, he's an onwards and upwards kind of guy. None of his apps have ever been developed further. I know he's keen on Geo getting on the 'bus but I wouldn't hold your breath for anything else as he's not the actual developer. He's just El Presidente of the company. And currently he's working on the next Dream Theatre album as well as a new keyboard, or something, with Jem Godfrey, plus all the other nonsense he does. I doubt he's abandoned iOS forever though

  • I wrote them an email about it,and never realy got a reply, personaly I would even pay a small IAP to get midi and audiobus on geo synth samplewiz morpwiz, but I would be pissed if they would abandon their apps like this.

  • But then when i think about it...they just might not have the SDK

  • The plot thickens.... Lol

  • @Frank It may not have been obvious, but that video is of Rob Fielding playing an Audiobus capable version of Geo Synth.

  • Jordan always gives me this outlandish story about being in this really busy metal band that wants to make everything epically complicated, touring the world, learning every freaky controller out there to put out a video, teaching classes, raising kids, and staying married. I'm not buying any of it. :-)

Seriously, Jordan relies on us developers for that. Me (Geo x iOS), and Kevin (SampleWiz,Tachyon,MorphWiz x iOS,BlackBerry,Android,WinRT), and a few other people working on new stuff that isn't even out yet. Geo is my fault. Blame me for that one, but I am on it. Adding audiobus involves more than adding audiobus. It's an update, and I now have to fix bugs that having audiobus uncovers, and do stuff that I ruled out of the basic design of the app. I am letting my day job and the other things in my life stand in the way. I made Pythagoras totally for myself with out a single care what anybody else would think of it, then it morphed into Geo and here I am today being dug up from the hole I was hiding in to get a release out. I think audiobus is very cool, but I am the only person that can't wait for somebody else to do it, and everything that needs to go into making a release. I

As for Kevin, he is well aware that it's a big deal to have audiobus for iOS users. I'm not going to speak for him though. Kevin has an insane number of apps on his plate, the majority of which aren't even on iOS.

As for Wizdom... There is other stuff being worked on that isn't out yet. Most developers I know that have a good app do maintenance on 3 or 4 apps and had to quit their jobs a few years ago and do that full time. I don't have that luxury. For Geo, I am on it. It will come out when it's out. The current devs for the current apps are not the only developers either, so Wizdom isn't gone...just spread real thin right now.

  • One thing to note: When you put an app in the store, you generally get a huge initial spike in sales, with an exponential drop-off. There is a finite number of people that can make use of your app, especially if it has any sort of learning curve. So, it's often a better idea to pursue new ideas with a new code base than it is to keep milking it.

I wish to hell that audiobus was out when I started, and I was really into making the apps happen though. If I could have just focused on getting it to generate the correct base sound and refuse to get involved in writing effects units or dealing with real-time audio issues, then I could have done quadruple the number of apps. I would keep it simple, push out a new idea and start on the next one. audiobus is the key thing that allows this. but that doesn't help if you STILL have to write a whole bunch of effects units and in-app track recorders, etc; it actually complicates things to do both.

Thanks Rob, some of us DO understand.

Personally, I find the app store culture of 'Buy once, free updates forever' a bit unrealistic. It almost forces developers to abandon apps due to diminishing returns. I would support a 'Buy once, bug fixes free, pay for significant new features' culture, even though as a consumer it would cost me more over time, as there would be an incentive for developers to keep enhancing and supporting their apps for longer.

P.S. Please don't add an in-app recorder to Geo Synth. :)

  • Rob thanks for coming on and saying your piece. Look forward to Geo getting on the bus but I'm happy for it to happen when it happens!

  • I like JR' Apps alot, my big problem is that other than SpaceWiz there is no othe way to get sounds anywhere other than iTunes filesharing and I cant stand be because it' so time wasting, and with so many other apps allowing us to move stuff around inside there does not seem a lot of point in getting apps that dont unless you are using stuff live or in a studio with external gear. Samplewiz is still my favorite sampler and to have it on the bus would be great, but I wont hold my breath...I use Samplewiz a lot but only to record into external gear..it'a shame..

  • Hi @rrr00BB, Great to hear you are working on it,and believe me I know how much work it is,
and I can see how the structure of some of the pre audiobus apps ,dont really easily adapt .hence the serious amounts of work.
Please dont think we are being inpatient just excited to get our favourite apps on the bus,and once again,m I really wouldnt mind paying xtra for it ,the idea that you can expect free updates with new futures is as ridiculous as a bottomless latte.

  • Very excited to hear that Geo will have Audiobus - it is one of my favourite apps for actually playing, so expressive! And Samplewiz can export sounds to Geo, so that helps too. Looking forward to it when you have the time to get it done.

  • @rrr00bb I know your Mac is toast, but I was curious if you know of any progress on any of the Wizdom apps. It's been several months with no word, and as usual, no one's answering emails at Wizdom. Thanks :)

I'm sure glad most of the developers that I admire and who have made significant contributions to mobile music don't think this way.

  • I heard that he tried updating Geo, but ran into problems he couldn't solve. I'm pretty sure Geo is dead in the water.

  • @PaulB I really hope that isn't the case. I love geo synth and the way it links to samplewiz and would also be happy to cough up an IAP to get it on the bus. All the other Wizdom apps too, but geo first!

  • Yep, me too, but that's life...

  • My need for AB in Geo was made less once I got iFretless Guitar. Would still be good to have though.

May be possible by setting up a DAW in Audiobus to record only the left channel input, perhaps using Jamup, monitor volume to zero on that track, panning all parts right on output and using a stereo digital interface. Plug the interface left output into the left input and monitor the right output. Then, with all the other apps running in the background, play Geo Synth, recording the left channel input.

Might give it a go tonight.

  • Does Geo have to be in AB slot to control other apps that are in AB input?

  • It shouldn't, just like any other midi controller but I find the reason most ppl want it is for the AB side bar / quick jump

  • @mgmg4871 MIDI control by any app does not depend on Audiobus support, only the routing of audio requires Audiobus.
