Similar Virtual Midi Control Apps

Ok just in case I missed something... on my iPhone I have ChordPolyPad, Gestrument, SoundPrism, ChordAssist, what are some other virtual midi control apps that I may be missing? AudioBus support is not essential (yes an added plus... but still interested if no AB). Especially those apps that allow for more control than just a single note? (For example I have almost all synth apps, midi guitar... they are all great, I am just looking for more virtual controllers that are as expressive as SoundPrism or Gestrument)

Comments

  • Arpeggionome, Arpist, NodeBeat, MusixPro

  • Thumbjam makes for an excellent controller for other apps. Many synths can be used as controllers with their own sounds off.

  • GeoSynth, StepPolyArp, Thesys, iFretless Bass or Guitar

  • Nobody mentioned Genome?

  • hehe well I kept iPad stuff off my list

  • Definately look at step poly arp...

  • I am actually using these to control Mac virtual instruments. Like sound prism controls the alchemy biolabs dark space AMAZINGLY. Great horror movie soundtrack. Steampunk. Funkbox/dm1 gives EZ and Superior Drummer quite the "extra sound" that I can't get from their packages (pop funk indie and classic I have). Chordpolypad and Diva synth??? Wow. Gesturement and cyclop, great also. So I will try a few above suggested that I missed. If they aren't to high in price. I am no longer using just apps to record or computer. I find mixing is best. Using midi out on the Mac can reverse this whole process btw.

  • Here's another option for midi controllers. It doesn't sound like what would work in this case but interesting....

  • To add a few more, like Geosynth, there's Mugician and Cantor (all 3 from same developer but with different nuances), Chordion, gyrosynth, polychord, Phaedra, little midi machine, yamaha arp and dr Pad...

  • Caelestis is really cool as a midi controller. And of course everyone's favorite, Different Drummer:)

  • You might find guitarism's Quadroplay IAP interesting - it converts the virtual guitar into a 3-channel MIDI controller with separate channels for the guitar notes, bass note and chord notes. Guitarism is currently free for a limited time so you can pick that up. Quadroplay requires the IAP to use it fully but it allows you to audition loops before you purchase, so you can see if it gives you what you're looking for. A very detailed manual for how Quadroplay works is here

    Disclaimer: I'm the developer :)

This is cool! I never ran across Caelestis or Musix Pro. I just tried out Caelestis (there's a free version w/o midi available) and really like it, so there goes another iap! It reminded me of Sound Cell. It's not as advanced, but I find gives some interesting results.

Musix Pro - really like all the customizations! It's like the other "fretted" instruments mentioned with tremendous flexibility. Thanks for sharing!

  • @yendor I think once you delve into it you will find Caelestis has more depth than at first appears. The same dev has another app called Poly which is also useful as a midi controller as well as a standalone.

I agree thinds, I meant that Sound Cell is not as advanced as Caelestis, just to clarify. But Sound Cell is a bit easier to control. Caelestis certainly is a nice find. I have Poly, but like the instant gratification and control of Caelestis.

  • Yes, sorry @Yendor I misread your comment completely there.

  • Ok glad I finally got thumb jam... great for the purposes I am using them for. It's nice for the scales like gestrument. Gestrument works great for single notes... Thumbjam has a lot of potential after only a few minutes. Actually I guess I prefer those control apps that can be used with my iRig midi. Virtual midi is great but has occasional latency. I am going for apps that streamline my process of scoring or songwriting.

  • My next goal is to see if I can get MidiBridge/Audiobus to work with my mac virtual instruments. So that way i can control one or even two sounds with phone (apps mentioned above) and other sound to be controlled with midi keyboard. If I can do all that

  • We're waiting for the upcoming Bit Shape release, something like TC-11 but for MIDI control. May be interesting.

  • Hi guys! :)

Midi control app by Bit Shape? Should be tasty :) What I really would love is a midi control app that let's me draw automation for midi - curved envelopes, not stepped bars - that has sync - like Genome (uses steps), but with an easier UI..

To answer the original question - BM2 hasn't been mentioned (uses steps again) & can be used for midi..

    All the best! <3

  • Yeah I will be getting BM2 (finally) to Audiobus all the greatness of SampleTank into bm2 and put that midi into my Mac when needed. (Read about it on midibridge forum). I just can't believe it took me this long to try this. Controlling alchemy on Mac and sampletron with soundprism and these others mentioned is just awesome. Hell write a piece on YouCompose and then use SampleTank 2.5 that way you can use all SampleTank virtual instruments with your 4 part harmonies.

My workflow and production are really becoming very effecient.

  • ORPHION can be used as a cool midi controller, with a function (IAP?) to design your own grid. And of course Midi Designer...build your own controller! :)

  • Surprisingly MidiBus is turning out to be perfect for what I am trying to accomplish. I honestly haven't used it much until the other day when I started this thread. Basically I am going through all (a ton) of my music apps and seeing what more I can get out of them. Midibus allows me to drive stuff at odd times (like 19/6... not perfect but it sounds different and works and thats the key) and still control Mac virtual instruments.
