Lexis Audio Editor - FREE recording, editing, and FX app

edited August 2019 in General App Discussion

Lexis is a useful audio recorder and editor.

No, it is not an AU. No, there's no MIDI. And no, it will not replace AudioShare on your iPad.

But there are a few useful and unique functions in the effects menu (change pitch, change speed, stereo to mono and other track selection options, muting options). It is worth having a look at.

And it is FREE.

Looks like it could be useful for me. It can speed change a file without time-stretching which is rare on iOS.

Unfortunately when I share the audio file to Audioshare I just get a blank wma.

You need to do a "save" in Lexis and then do a "share". Works for me.

  • Is that a bars / beats display on the ruler? The curiously missing piece from TwistedWave.

Just tried again a couple times and no luck here. They load fine in Lexis but I Still just get blank wma files in Audioshare.

    That is weird.

I loaded a file from AudioShare, applied some FX, saved it, then shared it back to AudioShare. Worked perfectly. But you have to do the "save" step in Lexis.

When I just applied the FX without saving, it didn't work. I got nothing when I exported it back to AudioShare.

Have a look at Pete's video - I think he goes through the process of importing/exporting.

  • Last time I checked it out it only supported 16-bit 44.1k files...

No hint of bpm measurement. Too bad. :|
Cool that it’s free, but of no use to me personally.

in the options is a setting for what format it shares in (and bit rates for mp3 etc ) set it to wav..
or are you actually trying to get .wma’s ?? seems unlikely..
the sharing ( as wav ) works fine for me .. i’m not sure audioshare handles wma so that might be why its blank.. its blank for me too.
m4a also works... i haven’t bought the iap to do mp3’s ... might do though , it does meta data too.. which is nice... but i have twistedwave so not in a hurry.

Oh sweet! There it is! Thanks! :)

  • If I recall correctly TwistedRecorder is still free?
Don't remember what features are disabled but it'll give a taste of what the full app is capable of...

  • Lexis Audio Editor has been updated with splitting capabilities!

Is that odd given that mp3 is dead?

MP3 is dead? That’s news to me. I kind of despise the format (audio quality-wise) but still deal with them on a daily basis in the studio.

mp3 is not dead to me, but patents have expired in US.

I was hoping this app might give me another mp3 export option, for free, given that it is listed in the app description.

    But no.

Obviously mp3 is not dead if you still use it but as far as I am aware no more licenses are being sold by the creator of mp3. I assumed there would be implications for commercial use if the format.

What do you mean by no more Licenses are being sold by the creator of MP3? Are you speaking in general ? Or about this app?

The mp3 is dead story was a thing for a brief time in 2017 but it hasn't affected reality too much, as far as I can tell.

Just for the record, mp3 is dead are not my words.

https://djmag.com/news/mp3-officially-dead-declares-its-creators#:~:text=In a statement released this,Fraunhofer IIS has been terminated."

    And from the horses mouth.

    https://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/en/ff/amm/consumer-electronics/mp3.html

I just assumed to have mp3 in your software or hardware it had to be licensed. I still use it though as all my gear supports it. Just not sure how it affects new products.
