Hey @RedSkyLullaby you ever get your issues sorted out?
No i am getting nothing from usb and tried cck to ipad and usb to mac and tried different cable and getting nothing from usb only powers up on battery setting and cant update so it works wireless on ios13 without the usb. Think im going to have to return it
Only USB data certified cables will work. Most USB charging cables will have issues with NKS, I have a dozen at home and only two works with NKS.
@RedSkyLullaby
Thanks. I’ll guess I’ll wait and see how I get on with the one I ordered (thank goodness for free returns!).
I have read a few threads and there are many mentions of the USB cable “issue” so maybe that’s what you’re experiencing. That being said, you seem to have quite a lot of experience with this stuff so presumably it’s not user error (although with 20+ years doing this stuff I still make supper dumb mistakes! )
I have an NKS. I always use it in Bluetooth mode. Are you trying to use usb to iPad or to desktop? I can try mine and see how it behaves. How exactly are you interfacing?
I am just trying to get the usb to work so I can update the firmware so it works ios13. Have tried 10 different usb cables and none are working. Am thinking even if all the cables I am trying are charging but not data at least I would get power to the unit from usb. Think I may have to do a return sadly
Ah... I updated mine on the desktop via usb cable.
Edit: never mind... I realize this isn’t your first rodeo and just saw you’ve tried several approaches. It was straight forward with no hassles for me so you must have a flawed unit
I had a mini keyboard from another manufacturer that developed a problem that turned out to be the chip(s) that handle the USB and the manufacturer was good about replacing it.
I assume you also tried with the usb cable that comes with the NKS?
@RedSkyLullaby,
Could be a problem with the switch too, if you’ve tried with the cable it came with.
It’s a three position switch, BT-Off-USB. I’m hesitant to even ask, but you’re certain it’s in the USB, not OFF position, right? It’s not the easiest switch to position properly.
.
I just hooked mine up via usb and forgot to flip it over to the usb position (all the way right)
So, I'm curious too.
Also, I remember I didn't get the combination of instructions exactly right the first time I tried. For RSL... after making sure you've got the switch in the far right USB position.. follow these intructions EXACTLY. I didn't do it in the right order the first time and it didn't appear to be working. After following the update instructions verbatim, it worked perfectly.
The following window will appear. Click the Update button in the window to start the process. (This is the image of the updater window when the nanoKEY Studio version is 1.05)
(from the nanoKEY_Studio_Mac_EN.pdf that comes with the updater)
Yeah definitely got switch in usb position and no power and update wont work. Tried the factory reset thing also with no luck. Do you guys use yours alot? Trying to decide whether im going to repkace or refund
FYI I use it ever, with IOS 13.3 and BT Korg fix and Win10 without any problem at all, every USB cable I have works flawlessly.
Most probably your unit has an HW problem.
I like that it's smallish and easy to throw in the bag. I like that it's pretty simple to use and set up. I like that it seems to connect without issue and stay connected. I like that it seems to be built solid and I've banged it around a good bit in the 2 years I've had it without incident.
If I broke it, I'd likely replace it with the same.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: Keep in mind... I don't really use mine so much as a musician might, ie using it as keyboard. I mostly use it as a portable external bluetooth controller that happens to have a keyboard on it too
@RedSkyLullaby, I use mine all the time ... because it's the only keyboard controller I have.
Well, that's not really true. I now have a Sensel Morph that I thought would replace the NKS as controller of choice. The jury is still out on that. I still like the NKS and use it. Would I buy it again ... probably I would get something else, but not because I don't like it, because I think a different controller might suit me better. In particular, the XY pad is something I never use, and I hate that you can't change channels on board on the fly other than by scenes.
Make sure you download and install the Korg USB device driver prior to running the update program. I had an issue with mine initially. I swapped out the cheap USB cable with a higher quality cable. It worked fine after that.
The USB MIDI driver is only for Windows PCs.
