  • If people added info of ongoing relevance to the wiki, it wouldn't matter whether megathreads existed as it would be findable in the wiki.

  • Maybe if people were to make proper use of the categories for topics and postings instead of defaulting to General most of the time this would help tidy things up.

  • This is why Discourse is amazing

  • When I can load the forum as an auv3 then will talk, until then....i can't even use it

🤣 I kid I kid, just taking a stab at the auv3 community, that I consider myself a member of 😉

But I think if you have a specific request or topic on an app, I think it's fair to start a discussion to address it... As the The threads get long they go off in random directions and I think that's ok, I join in, but if it's not something you want buried in there by all means I think it's fine to start a new one

There are few features that would improve and reduce the clutter a lot:

    • Reactions on comments (ideally not only likes, slack or github reactions are more useful than it may seem...) - there's an incredible amount of more or less useless posts with only "+1", " " , "thanks" etc...
    • Tags for discussions (and filtering discussions by tags)
    • Filtering per "thread" (i.e. display/highlight only posts that quote each other in a chain)
    • Ability to follow only a specific category (if you're not interested in e.g. Off-topic and Creations, you can unfollow them)

Not sure which features are offered by Vanilla forums, but I believe there should be some similar plugins that can handle these issues.

And of course, self-regulation is the best - at least "veteran" members should always think twice if they post a question / discussion topic into existing "general" thread about an app, or if it deserves a separate discussion (IMHO it's always best to start separate discussion)

This topic has 2 pages but I get bored before I even read 1... I will back when it gets more than 50 or so...

    Ironic mode: off

    Forums are forums,
    Blogs are blogs,
    grab what you need,
    ditch what you not.
Focus on your goals let life walk on...
or just start a thread which will grow until become a megalodon.
    It's all fine but meanwhile...
    Did you made a song?
    Anyways, almost,
    stepaway, stepupfront,
    and in the end
    just share Love.

Well @ExAsperis99, exasperated is definitely the right word. Really, what are you looking for here that you cannot get? So there is a little politics, a sad story here and there, a happy story, a few long threads, more info on every new app in one place, a philosopher king (@michael).

People must love the drambo thread as it cascades to what, 80,000 views? Maybe @senhorlampada should be banned for starting it! Why rain on that parade? It’s about an app that doesn’t even exist! Does that tickle your ribs just a little? This forum is a microcosm of society, except it is more tolerant and funnier.

Well, not all of us are living the idle life of the expat retiree! I don't have time to slog through the Moazic thread. I wanted to know if Photon was working well, but I couldn't quickly deduce and didn't want to put in the time to find out. Atom does me fine, I decided.

I also think you might find that it is the same few people who are relitigating the same arguments in various threads and that the number of comments does not indicate a broad appeal.

and sometimes they are quoting for no other reason than to:

    +1

    +1

    +1

  • @ExAsperis99, point well taken. I have a lot of time to keep up. However I don’t usually read mega threads unless they are about human foibles. I just don’t object to their existence.A little tech goes a long way for me. But still, asking someone to use their time to condense a thread.... ummm... other than me who has the time?

  • Is this a mega thread yet? If not, I'll come back to it in 2 weeks.

  • Breaking up mega-threads won't change the ease of finding info. Tons of tiny threads are also a hassle.

For those that don't know, forum search got a lot better several months ago when Michael ditched Duck-a-Go as the search.

If you want info to be findable, take a couple of minutes to add info to the wiki. You can even add an informative post's link to the Forum
    Gold page.

  • The best manual is hidden in a bunch of forums threads, youtube comments, reddit, app reviews, etc. Same for health stuff, secrets to diseases are scattered in a bunch of anecdotes... is what it is, but seems quite inefficient.

  • Most of proposals here require somebody to do some heavy lifting. I wonder who should be spending their valuable time organising the folder structure of the forum.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I like this idea - it's hard when forums have huge threads that have covered the question you have, but you can't find it so you post elsewhere, therefore breaking forum rules

If no one can find the answer to a question that has already been answered, how could anyone produce the evidence to prove you broke a forum rule? 🤔

And if they did prove you broke a forum rule, you would have your answer you were seeking when they produce the evidence that you broke a forum rule, so it is probably still a good idea to ask away. 🤓

I do like that idea! :D

  • I like how this is somewhat slowly becoming a mega thread

  • If only there were an Audiobus forum wiki where people could put valuable information that deserves to be accessible .

    Oh wait there is.

If folks would take a couple of minutes every now and then to add info to the wiki that they find in the forum, the wiki could be the go-to reference for iOS music making.

  • I wonder if there could be any way of mining the tag cloud in the wiki based on forum posts in a thread. For instance, if “Mozaic” was mentioned in a thread, and there were wiki entries with Mozaic as one of the tags, the tag would show up in a tag cloud at the right of the thread (or below on narrow screens).

Just trying to think of ways to better integrate the two. I think the main impediment to the Wiki is the conceptual need to jump over into a different environment just to see if there’s anything relevant in the Wiki.

Eh. Just thinking out loud. It’s probably not a practical thought.

    Sorry for the OT post.
