Nice, I've yet to fully become friends with ShapeSynth but most parts are quite clear...
It's one of those weirder synths for iOS
Great news. Thanks as always for the updates @White
Love Shapesynth and everything else Erik makes. So much fun.
Heck yeah. I love this dev’s apps
+1 shapesynth love!! Great news!!!
For me, the cherry on the existing humbletune cake would be a set of 3 midi auv3 keyboards based on Tardigrain’s (!!!), String’s, and Elsa’s. So inspiring and imaginative! Would love to get to support the dev again by paying for those!
Yasssss
Nice 👍 great music apps from humbletune!
Double Yasssss!
Cool! Def would love to hear more from this synth this before diving
The looper on shape synth, and even more on Nils, are the most fun thing to play with.
This dev is to me the »teenage engineer« of iOs, and I mean this as a compliment.
I hope he’ll bring someday Nils looper as a AUv3 with midi parameter for play, record, loop point, duplicate and tape speed.
This guy nailed just the right amount
of feature a looper need for fun madness.
Yeah, def looks like TE. Would check out once out.
‘Feels more important than making something new’ is a killer excuse, I’ve used that one many a time.
Still love the guy’s work. But he’s not foolin anybody with that one.
Huh?
It made sense to me. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment about revisiting a past creation instead of creating something new, a musical trap I’m prone to fall into. I figured others might do the same.
Point taken, this is often true!
In the case of Shapesynth it doesn't sound like an excuse IMO. An auv3 version is necessary for the app to have a place in the ios synth ecosystem—and will only be more so in the future. This dev has been slowly but surely turning their main synths into AUV3s over the last few years. AFAIK the auv3 ports have given a second breath to both elsa and strng for a lot of users. It would be a shame to let Shapesynth die off.
Other thing to note: this dev also has the reputation of developing apps for his own use first and foremost. I can't read his mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if he felt the opposite of the temptation you have in mind: to work on new ideas instead of updating his old synths, because they already do what he wants from them.
Im very excited for this update, if midi out introduced for the sequencer and some new features it will be killer 👍
@White
thanks for keeping us informed.
i agree with @ohwell
from what i've gleaned in my communications with Erik, he needs to prioritise due to other responsibilities.
it's my understanding that he would like to create AuV3 versions of most of his apps. i can't say all because i haven't asked.
i've also asked about bringing his phase synth ( phase distortion ) to IOS. perhaps after the AU's are done?
@Philippe
nils looper is great. you should contact Erik with those suggestions. i'll do the same.
nils also needs an optional loop crossfade to get rid of the clicks.
@humbletune
Erik’s apps are some of my favorite. So great.
Also possible this can become a very cool AU audio looper due to the tape abilities.
Brilliant 👍
Need to watch some vids on this. Really enjoy Tardigrain
Rediscovering Shapesynth this week. Thing sounds sooo damn good!
Me too.
I’m really liking it.
One thing’s been bugging me though...
How come none of the factory presets make use of the ‘page’ functionality of the two oscillators?
This, as far as I understand, allows the waveform of each oscillator to modulate through various different shapes (waveforms). So if you put in 8 pages and draw a different waveshape on each page, you’d effectively create a ‘wavetable’ made up of 8 waveforms you’ve drawn. You can then use the LFO or the y axis on the keyboard or, I think, a few other things, so modulate through different positions on this ‘wavetable’.
Would you concur @samu ?
Anyway - this is awesome! There are two oscillators too so it creates a lot of possibilities.
But why no factory presets that show any of this off?
(Anyone got any presets they can share? Is that even possible?)

Your demonstration should be here. I prefer it to the perplex example ( no offence to purplex).

For those that don’t like clicking on a link ( like me ), thinking that you will need to download the example, this link is a play .mov ( not a download ).
